Replacing brake controller....

Because it's the mind-set of the public; "I'll never need it", "It'll never happen to me", "That only happens to people who don't know how to drive with a trailer", and on and on. We see the same thing with smoke alarms. And motorcycle helmets. These people don't really care about anyone other than themselves and their immediate needs. Take the helmet issue for example. A lot of them will use the excuse that 'it's their life and their brains that will get spattered across the pavement'. True, but they either fail to realize or just plain don't care about the people that have to clean up their mess. Yes, we get paid to do that and it's the career we chose, I've heard that so many times I could puke. Personally, it doesn't bother me to scrape brain matter off pavement with a flat shovel. What bothers me is having to tell the moron's family that their loved one is has died as a result of their own ignorance. The result can be the same when someone cheaps out on a trailer brake controller, but usually it's someone innocent that pays the price, not the one who caused the problem in the first place.
THIS was the result of a trailer brake issue earlier this month:

Wow! I feel better now!
