Reese fifth wheel hitch question

Someone wants to sell me a hitch for 95.00 is this a good deal? The hitch is in good condition.

Can I use this hitch on my flat bed, or will it not work on a flat bed? Thanks, Tony

Reese makes good hitches. What weight rating is it? As for the flatbed, it all depends on deck height and you will have to mount the rails on top (or recessed into) your bed. If you mount them on top you of course will not have a FLAT-bed anymore.

I don't know for sure what the weight rating is. I think it is a 15,000lb. I'm supposed to look at it in the morning.

I dont think they even make the 15k anymore. There was nothing wrong with them, I still use mine for a 16,000 pound fifth wheel and have never had a problem with it. I sold another one that was identicle to mine for $150 about two months ago, the guy about tore off his pants trying to get his wallet out. Maybe I should have asked more?

I has told the way the come up with the rating on these is by exerting enough force for the hitch to deform by 3 inches and return to its original position and that # is divided by 2. Dont know how much truth there is in it.

If is in good shape its a great deal. I got my Reese 15k for $500 but it is a slider and I got the rails and mounting kit, and I got a really good deal. I have had no problems and put about 8,000 miles on it. It was used but near perfect shape. You shoud have no problem and you can still get parts for the 15k.

I picked it up today. The guy had just bought a heavier 5th wheel, and wanted a bigger hitch. I got the rails, and all the pins, and brackets that I'll need to put it in the truck. Not bad I figure for 95.00

Later, Tony

Well I don't know for sure. They seem to be a little bit of both. They are flat, but in the middle there is a slight rise. Hope that helps, Tony

Tony,
You are referring to the mounting rails and Stumpjumper is talking about the slider rails. Your have not said that your hitch is a slider. His question may have been for Camper Man.
