Hey guys - yes I am still working on this!

I am just curious what is the "standard" with regard to brake wiring. Black = +, White = ground or the other way around?

Also, does the polarity matter? I.e. does it matter which wire on the brake backing plate gets + and which gets - ?

I usually run black as ground and white as power. As far as which wire is which, they can be hooked up either way. Just as long as one is power and one is ground.

Believe it or not, there is an industry standard for both commercial trailer, and rv/recreational wiring.

Check this site out, for your wiring needs

they have colour schematics to help you along. Any questions on lighting and wiring, PM me.

Good luck

The brake magnets do not care which side gets the positive but as rule "white is the ground on the plugs and terminal boxes and the commercial wiring harness cable it is a heavier wire than the rest. I love guys that create their own wiring color codes and then have problems as each circuit must be tested to find what it attaches to. PK

When I was a kid my Dad bought a new Welcraft off the showroom floor. Not ever owning a "towable" boat, he had the boat dealership wire up his trailer light harness for him.

The guy that was splicing wires and hooking stuff up reluctantly said after about 30 minutes under the back of the truck "I may not be the best man for the job,.. I'm color blind"

He wasn't joking either, they had another guy come out to the shop and hook it up right.................
