Which raptor 5th wheel can I legally tow

Which raptor 5th wheel can I legally tow

I have searched all different phrases for the answer but I am more confused now. I own a 2005 dodge 3500 SRW. What is the largest raptor or other 5th wheel I can legally tow? I am not saying I am going to buy the biggest, I just want to know the limit to help me narrow my choices.

Not sure what the answer to your question is, but we have a 2009 Raptor 299MP and love it. Can't go wrong with one (a Raptor). Length is 33', single slide-out, weighs about 10,800, plus fuel, plus water, plus 2 Polaris Sportsmen (400 and 800). Don't remember if the generator is included in the 10,800. Garage is separate from living area. Pulled it with my old '02 (see sig) and the new truck (see sig also) pulls it just fine. Works for us (just wife and me). Would probably want a triple axle one if we had kiddos though.

Biggest doesn't matter the gvw is what you look at.
Check your owners manual it should have the weight limits of your truck listed.
I recommend a dually if you go much over 10k trailer weight.

I don't know the specifics of your vehicle. This is typical for a 3500 single rear wheel with an auto tranny. Choose your rear ratio. With a single rear wheel its easy to be withing the Gross Combined weight rating and be over the Trucks GVW because of the trucks weight with fuel, passengers, hitch and what ever else your truck has in it plus the pin weight of the trailer.

I can look at my trucks specifications on the door of my truck and at the keystone raptors specifications on thier website and do the math according to those resources. I know my truck can pull and stop alot of weight and I should buy a dually. What I really am concerned about is driving it across country and different laws regarding lengths. I am also concerned about the weight because the specs on the keystone website are not necessarily the actual weight. Does anyone have a similar truck with a 5th wheel that can give me some proven legal specs that I could compare with the keystone campers?

Your trucks wt will be in the 76-7800 lb range with hitch and passenger ,leaving you a pin wt of 1400-1600 lbs,if you go by the GVWR.Most fivers are 18-20 % of the gvwr of the fiver.

Use the trailers GVW. Find out what rating the axles have. If two axles and they are rated at 7000 lb each (14000) and the trailers GVW is 16,500lbs, that means your pin weight in the truck is going to be 2500lbs. Could be less with toy haulers since they carry a good load in the rear which takes a little
off the pin.

Once you know the pin weight, you can figure your trucks GVW, using two passengers (lbs) 35 gallons fuel (263 lbs) hitch and bedrails (140 lbs) Toolbox
if you have one, aux fuel tank and its contents, if you have one, added to the trucks curb wieght. Then you ad the trailers pin weight. That equals the
trucks GVW. Your length question has been anwered.

I have a 2007 3500 with a 6 speed, and tow a 2007 Raptor 3612DS with no problems!

I also have a 09 Raptor 3612 and tow it with my 2500. I have load range E tires and airbags. My truck pulls it with ease and it is nice and stable with all the axles on the Raptor. I almost went the dually route and am glad i never did just for the daily driver aspect. You wont have any issues with any of the Raptors. They all are 16,500 lbs max i believe for the 3612 and up models. They pull very nice !

Check the GVW of the truck and of the trailer, add them together, and make sure that you are not over 26,500 ( it varies in some states, az is 26,001 now) . Alot of big brother inspectors are stopping owners of toy trailers ( I guess they don't have anything else to do ) and if you are over 26,000 CGVW they will make you drop your trailer or make you stay there until someone with a CDL comes and either drives your truck and trailer combo or hooks on to your trailer with there truck and proves to the officer that they have a CDL. A freind of mine called me in June, just outside of Showlow ,Az and I had to go get him. The officer sat there for 3 hrs. waiting for me to show up and show him my CDL, Medical Cert. , Log Book, and USDOT numbers so I could drive his truck and trailer back to Phoenix while he followed me in my truck. Some officers are jerkoffs!!!!!!

if it is for personal non monetary compensation a cdl is not required for over 26k it is always 26,001 according to federal guidelines.. A class a is required, some states have a non cdl class a available, Texas does. With a non commercial you dont need any of the medical, log or dot numbers since you are not a commercial vehicle. Hard to believe a dot officer doing his job is a jerkoff.. I deal with them all the time, your attitude is reflected back from them.

Hey Rich, I don't know how is is in Texas but in Az. if you are over 26,001
(my mistake) A class A CDL is required weather you are commercial or not . If you don't belive me go to Azdot.gov. Yes, if you are commerical, you have to have a medical cert, log book and usdot #'s . I said some officers are jerkoffs, this perticular officer was having had the attitude that anyone pulling a large travel trailer was a criminal. He made me show all of the above material and I was just helping a friend out, not on bussiness, just personal. 99% of these guys are great guys, but you have your 1%'s that cause all of them to catch a bad rep. We have some that make up rules as the invision it, so don't take it the wrong way. And Yes, when I run up against a officer that thinks he is God, my attitude goes strait to hell................

In Florida You must have a CDL to operate:

�� Any single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more.

�� A trailer with a GVWR of more than 10,000 pounds if the gross combination weight rating (GCWR) is 26,001 pounds or more.

�� A vehicle designed to transport 16 or more passengers (including the
driver).

�� Any size vehicle that is used in the transportation of any material that requires hazardous materials placards or any quantity of a material listed as a select agent or toxin in 42 CFR 73.
