Question on Transfer Tank..

Can anyone tell me why you couldn't use this as a gravity feed transfer tank? I see it's not DOT Approved, just wondering what's different about it? This would be for diesel in the bed of a Mega Cab. I would use it no more than 8 times a year while pulling my toyhauler.

Well that's a good start. Does it slosh around at all or leak? You wouldn't happen to have a picture of it installed would you? I'd like to see how it looks. Thanks. Also can you get a locking cap for it?

It doesnt slosh to bad.I usually put about 30 gallons in it,that way it has room to expand.I can get you some pics later today.I have it gravity feeding into my main tank.I did have to modify the tank some.I drilled a hole in it and welded a 3/4 nipple in to plumb it into the main tank. They come with a small plug in them but they are to small to use.Locking cap?? I honestly dont know.

RDS Tank + Gravity Feed

My RDS tank came with a locking cap.

Gravity feed is not allowed directly into an engine, but apparently from a tank into main tank is allowed or ignored.

The only leak I ever had was when I stuffed the aux tank one night at 35 and the temp when up to 75 with bright sunlight the next day. The fuel expanded and came out of the vent.

Gravity flow into a main fuel tank is perfectly legal in all states.
