Back it on if the weight is not correct.

Don't back it on.
Most of the weight is in the front, if you back it on it will have too much weight in rear ( behind wheel axles) and will tend to fishtail a lot, very dangerous, besides the fact your bed will overhang over the trailer tongue and you will have hard time turning since it will be too close to your tailgate.

Just drive it up there, your truck will squat a little, add a red flag to your rear and you are good to go.

How many miles do you have to travel ?

If it is a ext. cab, it won't fit.

about 250 miles, its a regular cab but the trailer also has a small dovetail so i was thinking with the rear tires sitting on the downward slope it counter weight the tongue a little

Since it's a 10k trailer and your truck will not weigh more than 6500lbs you can haul something on the back to counterbalance, otherwise it should be not a problem.

Here's a few I have hauled...

I can't find the best pictures right now, but I've hauled 1-ton SRW crew-cab 4x4 dodges on my trailer, and all went well.

The trailer is a 7,000 lb 14-foot flat bed with 2-foot dove. I've haulded (3) crew cab trucks, a couple long bed reg cabs, etc. I hauled each one over 1,000 miles and have never had any problems. Drive the truck on, and all should be good.

My mistake, I was thinking of a gooseneck. I tried a ext cab on a 16 ft gooseneck and the front bumper came in connect with the uprights on the gooseneck before the rear tires got up on the trailer.

This is an 18ft trailer, I think you'll be fine.

Depends on the trailer and where the axles are. I simply stated it as an option if he was too tongue heavy.
