prodigy brake controller?

i just noticed today that my prodigy brake controller is showing an "SH" on the display. the book says it means there is a short somewhere. but where? i crawled under the rig and for the life of me i can not find anything wrong. i got a tester for the plus and the power led is lit but the "BK" (i assume) it stands for brake light is dimmly flickering. the controller is getting really hot too. any idea's?
thanks.

No, but I would unplug your Prodigy right away and get the multimeter out.

You already checked and rechecked your harness connections (between the brake controller and the factory harness that came with the truck) to verify that your ground wire is connected properly...?

When did you purchase the controller?

There were problems with the older units that I think was a short circut code. Call Tekonsha. They will swap you out for a newer version if needed.

yeah, I would DEFINITELY call Tekonsha on this one. My Prodigy came with wire codes for pretty much EVERY truck that's out there to get the correct color wires connected. It was a yellow sticky paper that SHOULD have come with your Prodigy.

Q.) The Display shows "SH".
A.) The Prodigy® detects a short to ground on the brake wire (Blue wire). The Prodigy has to have a complete circuit from the control to the brake magnets to the ground and has to have the proper resistance. Possible Causes:
· Short to ground on the brake circuit wire.
· Trailer has electric over hydraulic brakes.
· Faulty control.

Q.) What are the functions of the four wires?
· Black is the Battery Power
· White is the Ground
· Red is the Signal from the Brake Light Switch
· Blue is the Electrical Brake Feed

I assume it was covered by warranty? I think it's lifetime on the Prodigy.

your problem may be with the trailer. had the same thing happen to me last year. one of the electric brake wires inside the trailer hub was rubbing on the brake arm, wore through the insulation and caused the short. i pulled the hubs fount the problem and dexter sent me a new part.
