Pop-up Slide-in suggestions....

I have a 2001 2500 with the snow plow prep and camper options. I'm looking for a pop-up that is well built and well designed. I like the FourWheel models because I can possibly keep my tailgate on and close it when the camper is traveling. Plus they are light (less than 800 pounds dry). The problem is that they are built and sold in California and I am in Florida. I'm also looking at the StarCraft 800. Are there any others out there? I want to be able to have a wet shower and some comfort but keep the gas mileage maximized...

Palomino, Alaskan, Apache, Starcraft, Northstar, Lite Craft, Outfitter Mfg.

There may be a few more.

I had a nice Palomino Bronco 8 footer and loved it. Cost wise they aren't bad depending on how much you plan on using it. My truck hauled it like it wasn;t even there. I just wish I hadn't sold it. It seemed to be built well for the price and suited all of my needs.

Im keeping an eye out for another one someday. I have my topper which I've camped in before as well, but its not as nice!

If Im going to get something to last forever Id buy an Alaskan. I looked at a couple brand new ones in Denver this summer. I also like the 4Wheel campers too.

If you look into the used market, watch out for water damage and structural integrity.

Hope this helps. Have a good one.

Sun Valley Inc. They make both the Apache and the Sun-Lite lines.

Thanks,
The FourWheel and Starcraft Pine Mountain 800 look to be in my price range and have the features I want. Those Alaskan campers sure are nice but I can't afford it....

I had a 9' fourwheel that was great. I mounted jacks and tie-downs to the corners to make loading it easier than with camper jacks. It had a heater, stove, 3-way fridge, closet with porta poty, and sink with 5gal of water. Pretty much the basic's, If find another at a decent price I would buy it just for hunting. It only stuck out a few inches past the rear bumper, so it was great off-road. they seem to be hard to find out of CA though.
