New Years camping??

This will be our 3rd year out for New Years. Noramll there are 4 or 5 other RV's. Coldest was 20 degrees but we kept the fire going. This year we are going boondocking but have a couple Honda 2000's. We are in NW Washington.

question

Do you winterize your rig, and dry camp, or try to keep everything warm enough to avoid freezing?

i'd love to go camping for new years, but am worried about hauling that TT up the mountains. we want to camp in the snow. Where are you heading?

you know, kids go play in the snow, 20 minutes later "I'm freezing, i want to go home" after a 3 hour drive. at least with the RV, they can come in and warm up.

New years..

If we get snow we won't go out. Cold won't be bad. We can live with that. The coldest it has been so far is 12 degrees. We don't normally get below 20 degrees. I normally watch the temps and drain the tanks. I keep a small heater going below 32 degrees and if it gets into the 20's I fire up the furnace a couple times a day. I also monitor the temps inside the 5er. I haven't had any problems so far. Last year it was about 40 degrees and raining. Year before got into the 20's. It will be fun anyway!! I am collecting firewood...and antifreeze (cold adult beverages).

Except for last year with the new baby we've been camping for about six New Years of the last ten....actually snowmachine camping with an RV of course....coldest it has been was about -30*F.
I keep an electric heating pad handy to put in between the propane tanks to keep them flowing good if the temps really drop.
Either being plugged in, or using the Honda has worked well, and we just dry camp with bottled water...not using the water/sewer system.

New Years..

That's cold...the year we hit 20 the hose froze but we figured that out pretty quick. I have the Honda gen and a Lil' Buddy. That should get a good workout. Seems like the Buddy takes the edge off anyway. I still like cooking outside on the grille and Coleman stove. It adds to the outdoor experience. I do some cooking inside but making coffee, for example, add to the moisture inside the 5er.

It is a lot of fun. Last year we went to Mossyrock state park, its a GREAT place to camp. REALLY cold. Woke up the first morning and there were 3 geysers across from us. Three water hookups had froze and burst, water was shooting 30' in the air. The ranger turned all the water to the camp off. I had filled our fresh water tank so no big deal. With electricity and propane we stayed warm and dry.

At first I thought we might be nuts but is turned out the be a super trip that we all enjoyed.

We aren't going this new years 'cause my in-laws will be here over the holidays. Our next trip will probably be in February over the long weekend. If you guys head out somewhere let me know, maybe we can get together.

Forgot to mention, it didn't snow at Mossyrock until the morning we left. I just took it slow and headed for I5. Not bad on the main roads. Many of the CGs nearer the Mt., like Ohanapakosh, Lawiswis (sp?), Cougar, etc. are closed. Another one to consider is Fort Warden, its fun too.

New Years..

...or Ft Casey on this side. It is a great spot but fills quickly, during the season and this time of year get a cold wind. We are going up the Skagit to Rasar St Park and sometimes go to Howard Miller Park. Both are within and hour and easy. Anyway, the time is approaching and I can't wait. The company I work for sells Honda equipment and I am getting a 2000EU for my brother in law today.

Last year we were camping in Bay City, TX and had a blast! This year we have reservations at Galveston State Park on the beach. I can hardly wait. The Rottenlab really enjoys the camping and I swear she crys and whines for 5 minutes when I back the TT into the drive way to load her up. Good to hear that others are out camping on New Year's eve.

This is going to be our first year camping over the New Years Holiday. Heading out to the deserts of North Phoenix. About seven families, and now no one has to drink and drive or battle with others that have.
We are really looking forward to it, my 3 year old asks me every morning, "Is it time to go camping with our friends Daddy?" It breaks my heart to tell her, three more weeks pumpkin...just three more weeks.
