New rear springs with higher load rating

I would like to get a set of springs made for my truck to get rid of the blocks ( really bad wheel hop in sand with even small amounts of throttle ) and up the load capacity of the springs . I was wondering how high I can go ( looking at a slide-in camper at about 2700 lbs dry wieght ) and not get into trouble . I am going to a heavier duty tire when the BFG's wear out . I am not all that enthusiastic about air helper springs .

you could go to a truck shop and have them add another leaf in.

Added rear leaf springs & scrapped the Timbrens

I had spring shop in Charlotte add 2 full length leafs to my rear several months ago and they make a world of difference in my towing stability. It gave me 2"s unloaded.

Although I dont have any pictures, I just added 2 leafs per side to my 91. I stopped by the spring shop, they did some measuring, and I told them I am gonna haul some heavy weights. They actually recommended going to a much thicker leaf than just adding the stock thickness(i cant remember the #'s) he sold me new center bolts, u bolts and clip's for just under $150. I have room to add 2 more per side if I ever wanted, but he said I wont be back, and I agree. It rides much much stiffer than my 90 dually, that had a auxilary towing spring setup when built.

Its a few hour job, but not hard. I left the main on the truck, jacked up the frame and lowered the rear, slide the springs in, and jack the rear back up. I just cut the old u-bolts off.

It added almost 3" to the back of my truck, and those 2 leafs account for almost 1/2 of the entire pack in thickness. I was told to place 1 right under the main, then an original, then the other new leaf, and finish with originals.

Just like Dantana said, its worth every cent, whether you can or cant do it on your own.

Thanks for the ideas, but I think I'm going to go with a whole new custom spring pack . I want to get rid of that 6 " or so block on top of the axle and get rid of as much of that wheel hop as I can . I have the Dana 70 rear axle, will that handle a single rear wheel one ton load with 3.55 gears and 315/75r17 BFG's ?
