You are pretty much correct, in OD at that point you are lugging the engine. Foot on floor and still slowing down is considered lugging the engine. You could push the button on the shift **** and put it in third direct, with 3:54 ratio at 70 MPH and in third direct it should run about 2700 RPM's. The engine could run at this RPM day and night with no ill effects, it will only consume more fuel at that RPM.
