I like your high-tech chassis jig.

Looks like it's coming along nicely.

fer sher!!!!!!

I plan to take lots of pics. I've got a winch, two side cabinets , hydraulic pump and cylinders. I'm looking for a generator.
I want to make it universal for everything..........removeable sides, tilt bed, hidden tie down pockets, pockets down the center for removeable rollers to hall boats, aluminum ramps and full steel deck. I'm debating whether to make it a beaver tail.

If anybody has any other suggestions........ I'll take them!

Pics of your progress would be cool.

update pics

Here are some pics. I had to widen the axles, add the upright support tubes. The axles are temporarily tacked in until I get it built and weighed at the scale to check axle weights. I might have to move them forward. I hope not. I like them there.
I've posted more pics in my gallery pending approval.

To be honest, so far $100.00
I got the tube steel and "c" channel for nothing. It was ordered for a job and the company changed the order and had already bought the steel. They asked around for anybody who wanted the metal for free and my brother called me to say come and get it, I did (REAL QUICK)
4 lengths of 3"x6"x30' 3/16" tubing
4 lengths of 3" i.d. tubing
2 lengths of 8"x 12' c channel
I bought an old 20' camper (GUTTED TO FRAME) for the axles for $100.00
The winch and cabinets were throw aways from old vehicles at work.

I would want hevier axles than the camper axles. I would think that they would not be heavy enough for a car, and I am shure they wont hold a truck. To be honest I would bet that buy time you get done with the trailer they will be over loaded sitting there empty. Im not trying to be negative, I love the idea of building your own stuff to performe as you see fit, I just dont think they will be safe going down the road with anything of a load on the trailer. A good freind builds custom trailers for people on the side and the lightest axle he usses is 3000#. That is what is on my 10 foot utility trailer he made for me. I have run it prety close to its limits before with just a couple ATVs and other riding gear. You have to take into acount the wheight of the empty trailer and load from there. A pair of 7000# axles would be excelent under that size trailer.
Anyhow looks like it will be a nice trailer when you get done.

spring shop

Some friends of mine own a spring and alignment shop. It's got one spindle slightly bent. They said to bring it in. They straighten the spindle, beef up the springs and align the whole thing for me.

I would add more springs and REALY beef up the axles. For the price of new ones though I wouldent skimp on something that important. No matter howmuch you beefup the axles the bearings and spindles would still be only rated for what the camper weighed.

There not as cheap but more than strong enough and come with brakes.
Again, Looks like an awsome project and be shure to post pics of the final product. Sounds like it will be very handy.

Maiden test voyage

Well I made the connection to the fifth wheel today and took it for it's maiden test voyage. It pulled along very nice so far. I gotta finish welding in some fishplates to strengthen some welded joints, add the floors, accessories and wiring.
I did notice I have to move the left front axle spring perch back about an inch for alignment. It tracks at the rear about 2" to the right. Other than that, it trails and pulls along fantastic.

I think it turned out great for some back yard REDNECK 1st time attempt.
I'm very happy. Can ya'll tell?

Looks like you are getting it done, Looks great. Could you put the boxes up over the fifth wheel? I have been seeing a few around my neck of the woods doing that and it looks sharp and saves space on the bed. Goodluck,,Rick

I already planned on that. I left them down there while I was building the gooseneck.
I just got the landing gear today for it. A little overkill but free.
