Question More tow power.....A Box?

Evenin' all
Before I start, I want to say that I have read numerous threads until I am overwhelmed. If you look at my sig, you can see all of the preliminaries are in place to do a downloader or box. But the question still remains which one. I tow two antique John Deere tractors('52 A and a '50 G) behind my ride, and would like a little more umphh when towing. Is SMARTY for me? Yes the truck weighs 26k with two tractors and the trailer and all of the goodies to go to pulls or shows, but is this the box for me? If so what SMARTY settings work well for towing heavy? On the lower settings, does it smoke like crazy? If not SMARTY then what is recommended? I am open to all suggestions and advice. Thanks to all on this board in advance who write every day and for all of the great advice given to everyone.

Regards

Eric

Im in the same boat as you are. I tow with truck and trailer 26k too as Im a hotshotter. I here nothing but good from the smarty but that is only from a performance and tweaking point of view as if your towing, the egts will skyrocket. Im looking for something simple as a quad tow module as those will not raise the egts if any it will lower. Cant really help you since I never even owned a guage before let alone a box. I have made up my mind 95% that im getting a tow box once quadzilla hurrys up and perfects that dang box for the 6.7. Good luck

Since you already have all the guages you need for towing, You are pulling alot of weight, and you don't want to upgrade alot of other components such as clutch and turbo. I would suggest a low end cost box such as a power puck or XZT. They can be bought for under $200 new. They will give you just enough power for towing at highway speeds without too much strain on other components or have to worry too much about EGT's. They are not crotch rocket type power enhancers but will get the job done.

The Quad XZT is a great box. I don't haul as much as you with my truck, but it made a huge difference in my ability to pull up steep grades. My EGT's will still get hotter than I'd like, but they are managable. But, I'm also looking to a Smarty, only I'll get a turbo to go with it.

In my 05' 3500 DRW CTD, 6spd, I added dual 4" exhaust, cold air intake, gauges, Pac Brake and run a Superchip only (ever) on the tow/performance mode. I have never uninstalled it.

I notice very little smoke, more power (especially in 4th and 5th), and I watch my EGT's for acceleration temp increase (easy to control, just let off a bit), and run a stock clutch. I am pleased with the performance of the Superchip.

My 3500 weighs @ 8,200#, my trailer 6,700# (25') and my fire truck weighs 15,000# (no water) = 29,900#. No problems. Transfers 5,425# to pin (19% to drive wheels and 6% to streer), leaving 16,275# on the trailer axles.
