Comp Box or EZ box, Fuel mileage and enough power to tow 8000lbs around??
Why limit yourself to just these options?
Either would let you tow 8K pretty easily.
I'd much prefer an ECM/TST or just ECM. I've had an EZ and I've had a Van Aaken, and I like the ECM the best.

edit: saw your other post...
if you are set on EDGE go with the comp; at some point you will become sick of the EZ and want more power. but have you researched blue chip diesel, tst products, MAD ECM, van aaken, diablo, superchips, etc etc etc, or maybe injectors

8k is pretty light...your stocker should tow fine, but if you want some help the EZ/rv275 is a good set up. Gauges are first and foremost though. I like big intake and exhaust also to help manage egt's
If your going to pull with this be sure to get something adjustable. Your gonna find EGT's going through the roof pretty quick with these mods and being adjustable allows you to move it around accordingly. Personally as soon as I hook a trailer up, I turn the Comp off, you don't need it for pulling power. I have pulled as much as 22,000 with this truck stock and didn't need the Comp to do it. The chip is a huge help in the speed dept, but un-needed for pulling.
MAD ECM all the way esp. with a stick.
You can PULL all the way to redline before you shift. My ez fell flat on its face after 2400-2500.
Majority of the towing around here is in 5th. 55mph or under. It's REAL nice to pull out and pass pulling 20k with the truck pulling hard at 70 mph in 5th gear. That was something the EZ couldn't do.
As far as EGT's go, as long as your intake system is leak-proof, I wouldn't wouldn't sweat it. The whole "non-adjustability" with the ECM is bogus is far as I'm concerned. It's your right foot. Roll on, roll off. Now even with the stab the skinny pedal and grin method pulling a load EGT'S are a mute point.
Mad ECM, CaTcher, same thing is the only way to fly for towing IMO......

Pullin all the way to redline before you shift, 5th gear under 55mph with a heavy load, maybe with your 6 speed if your not interested in long life but not with his 5 speed. Egt's not an issue with a chip in it. Your truck came from a different planet than mine did. Anywhere I go past this is gonna be rude.
When I was running my comp in EZ mode with the 275's I could only hit 1100* with my baby HY-35. I don't think you'll have to worry about EGT's with an EZ/275 combo with the HX-35. I do strongly suggest getting gauges before hand just to make sure though.
I'l apologize and admit I'm wrong then, it must have just been my truck. Before I put the 4" exhaust on I could run my EGT's to 1200* in a heart beat with the Comp, never let it go past that before I got out of it.

5th for me 4th for him. I have run the truck in 5th to 70-75 PULLING hard no problem. EGT"s are not an issue. Then again I only have a little above 300 horse.
I DO have a tranny temp gauge and gives no indication to back down.
I had a butt-load of boost leaks before and temps were marginal at best. I got them fixed and now running it like I stole it proves no issue when loaded.
Like I said, only 300 ponies.
Take it for what it's worth. Don't be shy about being rude........
Theres alot more to EGT temps than what box is thrown on it.
Overall condition of engine, cooling system, intake temps, restrictive exhaust, engine operating temperature, quality of fuel, etc.
The boxes do run the engine aggressively and can cause problems if not watched. especially driving like mentioned above... runnin to redline and 5th gear under 55mph is abuse no matter how ya spank it.

You lost me there on the last statement Timmay.....
4th gear is too low, 5th is kinda/just right and 6th is too high. The truck WILLINGLY runs and pulls to redline. My shifts before and after the ECM went from 2000 to 2500/2700. It just feels right. Nothing is out of parameter.
Pull out to pass a car loaded down, stab it and it's at 75 mph in 5th gear. It RUNS HEALTHILY to that mph. With th eEZ it refused to do that. It just fell flat. That was my point.
