Mega Cab backing problems ???

I am looking at getting a mega cab with the 5.9 still in it. I am worried about one thing, backing up with a goose neck or fifth wheel. I want to know if anyone has been upset or disappointed in the way a mega cab backs up with a fifth wheel or goose neck. I just want to know how tight you can get a trailer turned. Anyone have vid of a mega cab backing up, hooked up. Thanks for your time.

I have pulled a 30 foot gooseneck with my megacab plenty of times. Never had an issue.

It will turn as tight as the truck will, I didn't do to much backing up unless it was to park the trailer or to hook it up, but I never had a problem. No with a 5th wheel you will have some clearance issues.

thanks,

Jay

Gooseneck will be fine. Same as any short bed dodge. I tow a 35' Fifth wheel and you must have a slider hitch. Sometimes it gets close but just be carefull and you shouldn't have any problems.

I pull a 32' 5er, and since its front corners are tapered, it can jack without any problems with the fixed hitch.

I tow a 318SAB, Cougar bought new in 2010. This trailer has the new tapper front on it were, it states that you have 88 deg of clearance when backing up.

My older 2006, 5er had just an extended pin box and a slider hitch was required for it to back up.

The dealer stated I could get by with a fixed hitch, I do not think so. I still used the same slider hitch in the Mega Cab bed from my older trailer. MY DW stands next to the truck and watches the clearance between the truck and the Cougar front corner. She swears I am going to hit the cab one of these days as she watches me back-up into the driveway. I need to turn really sharp to get into the driveway and I go to full lock to lock stop on the steering wheel.

I would go with a slider hitch if you are going to pull a 5er. Cheap insurance against hitting the cab.
Just my $0.02

I had a SuperGlide automatic slider with my '06 MegaCab. Still have it for sale!
Now that I've changed to a longbed I don't use the 5th wheel hitch anymore and converted the trailer back to the GN it originally was.

I've got to back the truck/trailer up a 300' or so driveway that is somewhat uphill. What I don't like about doing that is the heat that the torque converter being unlocked imparts to the transmission fluid during the process, and the curves in the driveway to negotiate in reverse. I use 4x4 low for the hill, and my wiles for the curves.

To your point, I've got a Reese 18K Signature Series 5er slider. I've not had to slide it for any situations, yet.

Jumper I have the same issue, 400 feet back and a tight 90 degree turn. I just got a 3500 dually long bed and installed a set of EMS offroad free spin hubs. I now have 2 wheel low!!
