max tire size on stock rims
I have a 2010 CTD QC LB SRW. I carry a camper and am over my tire rating by about 150 pounds per tire on the rear.
Was thinking about the Toyo Wild Country AT 285 70 17 E or the Nitto Terra Grapler AT in the same size to get the tire capacity at 3750 per tire. I do want to use the stock rims due to cost.
anyone run that big on the stock rims? I think they are 8x17, the spare rim is 7.5x17. I am currently running BFG TA KO in stock 265 70 17 E and love them but they are rated at 3195 pounds and would like the extra capacity. And the BFG do not come in that high a rating until you get up to about 12 inches wide x 34" plus and that likely would need a wider rim.

I've got 35X12.5 Toyo M/T's on my stock wheels. That being said, my next set will be the 295/70-17 Toyo M/T's for their 3970lb rating for my camper also. Eventually I'll probably go with Vision wheels and 19.5 tires.
Thanks for your reply, have you carried the camper with that wide of wheels on the stock rims? what tires are you running? Do they track well or are they squirmy?
A side note, got a BS answer from dodge on rim capacity, I copied it in a post elsewhere, "that information is unavailable" was their answer. Being a structural engineer there is someone that knows the rim capacity.
Did contact Fumagalli the manufacturers of the rims and they directed me to Maxion who distributes them and they came up with 3100# for singles and 2750# for dually rims. This makes no sense from an engineering standpoint for the rim capacity. The dually rims should be able to carry larger loads than the wider rims on the single rear wheel rims if they are made of the same thickness and grade of steel. Also a BS answer, I can divide the rear axle weight rating on the door jambs by 2 and get 3100# myself.

Can any of you tell me about the Toyo open country h/t tuff duty. Like do they make a lot or noise and how about tread life. 99% of the time I drive on concrete roads and the other 1% on farm market clechie roads.

Round here we run 35x12.50 Open Country MTs on stock dually wheels. They are 6"ers.
I plan on putting 285/75 OC MTs on my dually.
You will be just fine with them on an 8" wheel.

Got the Toyo 285-70-17 AT (126) 3750# rated tires on stock rims.
The are quiet and track well on pavement. They have bigger spaces between the tread blocks than the BFG TA/KO's they replaced and do not hold as much gravel from the storage place I keep the truck and camper.
I don't think they are any better than the BFG's and would have went that way if Goodrich had theirs rated higher.
But good and no complaints. May get 17 inch rims that I know the rating on someday. The next piece of safety gear is a rear view camera. WOW campers are big.

Just an FYI, I had those same A/T's on mine for a while, I only got 25K out of them. Went back to the M/T's and they're just about gone at 30K. Most of those miles are with the camper on.

I know I'd be money ahead if I went with the 19.5" Vision wheels and some quality 19.5 tires, but my heart skips a beat and my wallet screams everytime I price them out on Rickson's site.

I did some research and found that many folks did not get great mileage wear on the Toyo AT's. The other option on stock rims I found were Nitto's also many reports of less than stellar wear.
Did get a pretty high load rating without the $3K to $4K for G rated tires on 19.5 inch rims. Should have gone with a dually, hindsite.
Not a daily driver 4ooo miles last year. More when I retire.

Not sure what kind of camper you have but you should be just fine with the tires you choose.......should they not rub on the inside sidewalls when loaded. I run factory sized tires and even weighing 16k lbs....yes, 16 thousand pounds..........with just the truck itself, the duals never rubbed on the insides. The truck weighs 8k with what I have on it and then I added 8k lbs of sand in the bed and the tires hardly even bulged. I think you'll do fine with whatever you choose. My airbags on the other hand are probably still cussing me to this day
