max camper weight

Hi, this has probably been asked before but I couldnt find the thread.

can I put a 3900lbs camper on a 93 w250 club cab?

I would put airbags on it. I'm running 10 ply 235/85 r16 tires.

tks,
rjm

To find out what your truck can legally weigh, go to a scale and weigh it now. Subtract this weight from the GVWR on the door sticker. (should be 8510 lbs.) The difference is how much more weight you can add to your truck. You will probably find it is 2000 lbs. or less.

I see that you are from BC. I understand they are pretty sticky there about enforcing weight laws and such, although I have never been stopped there. You may want to be more careful about your weights than many others would.

I have a Lance 845, about 3000lbs ready to camp. I use a Dodge 2500 CTD. Am I overweight, yep. I have airbags and a Helwig sway bar. No problem. I also pull a 3000lb boat.

I guess an Okanagan 116 ULT is out of the question then.

3975 dry weight.

If you look at the online cataloge from Okanogan:

http://www.okanaganrv.com/Camper%20F...re%2012_05.pdf

It recomends a 1ton dually.

This camper is part of the reason why I sold my W250 and bought a 3500!

Wow, that's a beautiful camper. It looks bigger inside than my 5th wheel.

Bigfoot makes some nice ones too.

I think we need to start a new thread on the Okanagan 116ULT! That thing is awesome.

Now I wish I had seen that before I bought the Lance Max.

BTW, good luck with a 3900lb camper on a 93 W250 Club Cab. I think it would bend in the middle like an old horse.

I had a 10' camper that weighed ~3300 loaded (scaled at a DOT scale), plus a 2800LB boat in tow. I had a HD F250 at the time, ended up putting in air bags and front add-a leaves, but it was still scary in the wind and curves. The GVW of the truck left me ~1900LBS of cargo capacity . That left me almost 1700 over the factory GVW. It might have been OK in the flat lands, but no fun in mountains or in high winds. I ended up going to a 3500 dually, no airbags just the factory overload springs. It was a really nice setup, handled great and whole lot less stress driving it. Even with the boat I was just under the GVW rating of the truck. I have since moved to a 32' 5th wheel with about a 2K pin weight, the dually is a bit overkill but even in high winds it tows like a dream.

I haul a 3800 lbs 11.5 foot camper a Fleetwood Caribou. I have a 2500 with air bags and that is it. I have had no problem hauling it. The DOT let me license it to 5000 kilos or 11.000 lbs. There is a picture of it on my truck in my pic gallery.

Thats a nice looking setup you have there Clayton.

I have double thunk spending $45.000.00 on a camper anyways.

will probably look for an older one in decent shape.

will still go with the airbags though.

tks,
rjm
