Longbed camper in shortbed??

i have a chance to get a good but older truck camper for $200 and i was wondering can i put it in my shortbed? and would i be able to get some kind of hitch to tow my trailer with my jeep on it? in an 8' bed it doesnt stick out at all so it not one of those extra long ones. and how much do these things weigh? its an older aluminum one with a bathroom and large bed out over the cab. forget the make and year . thanks for the help

I have an 8' camper that I put into my shortbed. My camper's empty weight is approx. 1900# according to the mfg. I do have Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks and airbags that really helped with the sway that I was getting with the camper on. I also had a Reese tow beast hitch installed with a 2 foot extension to pull my trailer with Jeep on it.

The problem with a longbed camper in a shortbed truck is center of gravity.

Campers have their innards laid out so that the center of gravity somewhere over the axle. By putting a longbed camper in a shortbed truck, the center of gravity will be way towards the rear of the truck, and not over the axle.

I'd bet this would lift up the front of the truck. How much, depends on the weight of the camper. It may not be noticeable, or could be dangerous. Dangerous to the point of not being able to steer.
