Can you log off duty without a motel receipt? I have been BIG truckin for nearly 15 years, but Im kinda new at this size.

This has been discussed many times . Some officers will put you out of service if you don't have motel receipts . They have no right to do it and somebody should fight it with an attorney . There is nothing in the FMCSA regulations specifying how off duty time must be spent . It does not say you have to rest , just be relieved of duty .

I have been running for almost 5 years and have never had a problem logging off duty. Best thing to do is try and park on private property (Walmart, truck stops and so on). I have heard of a few guys getting hassled parked in rest areas.

So does this mean you can be off duty while sleeping in your truck? Like on the back seat?
