Sleeper berth

Ok, I know this is probably not a new subject, however I am new here, so Hello to all. I am from Alberta, and looking in the possibility of running rv's from indiana to canada, and I am finding a lot more questions than answers about everything, I just read in a few places that if you don't have a legal sleeper birth, you can log off duty when you sleep in your truck. Is anyone on here doing this kind of work, or in the trucking business and could answer this question. Thanks.

Eric

Logging off duty and sleeping in the truck is log falsification, and illegal. Now the honest answer is yes that is what most rv haulers do, just don't get caught (don't sleep in rest areas, look for private property like Walmart, truck stops etc). Oh and have you story straight if questioned at a scale.

Wait a minute.... you're pulling an RV and you need to sleep legally??? keep a roll of foam and a sleeping bag and roll it out on the floor of the RV, am I missing something?

I always wondered the same thing, maybe they are not allowed to enter them, I know when they haul semi's the guy just sleeps in the first truck, and then we have to clean it( I work part time for a semi truck detailing company.)

You are not supposed to sleep in the RVs,, but most do. But from what i have been told the trailer has to be un hitched from the truck to make it "legal" to sleep in it. I will tell you one thing, you will not make money hauling Rvs from indianna to Alberta, the fuel costs are way to much and the pay is no where near enuff to make a living from it. Unless you are retired with a pension. You get paid one way only. Figure out what you get paid for 1 trip, then how many hours it takes to make the trip which is about 60 - 65 hours for 1 complete trip. After fuel and stuff you will make approx 1100.00 for 1 trip. Now taxes have to come off of that as does maintenance cost of the truck and see how much you make in a week. Dont get me wrong , there is nothing like being your own boss,, but it is very hard making a living now especially if you have a truck payment, house payment etc. Do the figuring before you decide as once you lease on, what will happen is you have a truck with very high mileage fast and low value. When busy, you can easily put on 150,000 miles a year. There is a reason there is always new drivers every year as most will try it and find out it dont pay enuff,,, IF it did pay so great then why dont any of the big companies own their own trucks?

Although I am retired with a pension the ONLY RV I plan on hauling is my own. I even had my new one delivered to the dealer here, should be here end of this week. Interesting to note that you have to unhitch the RV to sleep in it. I wonder how they handle a motorhome?
