Injector upgrade for towing???

What experience have you had with towing when you upgraded injectors (only)? I'd like to know what mods you have and what injectors you got.

Thanks!

I went with the 40hp 'rv' injectors and very happy. Very responsive and no soot on the camper.

I keep reading about these injector increased horse power upgrades, but nobody ever goes into any detail about them.I have questions like,do they use more fuel?Is this the best way to add a little more horsepower? What is the downside? What are they worth?
RV injectors?thats why i want a little more HP,i pull an RV.I have a 2001 24vave 5 speed, completely stock.Going up hills the speed range gap between 3rd and fourth is brutal. In 3rd the motor is roaring doing 35,in forth it,s lugging doing 40 mph.Could someone please tell me about more Hp injectors

my truck fell off fast on a hill when it was stock, i soon bought the 10 torque plate and 3000 governoe spring and enjoyed the difference towing. I plan to add injectors to give me some more towing power ; but i think 50 hp more will be all I need for now. when you start adding power it is hard to say WHEN lol. stock turbo wand exhaust will take over 350 hp no problem. just don`t buy to high a injector hp . smoke is wasted power. I find with the more power I have now over stock did not hurt my fuel usage. In fact less petal gets me up the hil now. hope this helps !

Injectors are a great way to add power and help towing. But.....they can most often create more heat (EGT) and when too much heat is added, you need a larger turbo to offset. So, there is a limit to injector size when towing, and what you're towing. Most often you'll see guys stay at no more than 75 hp injectors. RV275's are around 40-45 hp injectors and do a good job. Its been said that the perfect towing combo is an Edge EZ and RV275's. But I'm sure there's plenty good combo's. Just make sure you're not exceeding the weak link in the drivetrain. There is always a weak link. The auto can be too weak for most power increases when towing is involved unless some upgrades are done, and the manual tranny clutch is good to about 75 hp over stock before slipping starts.

Injectors make power by adding fuel and/or changing the spray pattern of the fuel injected. The more crudely the injection is performed, usually the more smoke the truck creates. Injectors can also make an engine quieter by changing the powerstroke peak noise, and they can actually increase fuel mileage a little. 2-3 mpg increase is the most I've heard, but usually the excitement of the HP keeps the right foot too heavy for any mileage gains. And if you're asking how more fuel can increase mileage..... Its because the better more powerful combustion creates a situation where the same job is completed easier and therefor less engine effort is required to accomplish the same task. Thats the simply way of explaining it.

Might want to ask on the 1st gen forum to get an answer that's specific to your truck. Lots of different option over the years.

With 1st gens we already have more than enough injector to overwhelm the stock turbo. Upgrade the turbo first.

I agree with BILTIT--with your pump mods you should probably be looking at a turbo upgrade next. You should be able to pick up a used HX-35 with a wastegated 12 cm housing pretty cheap.

Also, I didn't see it in your sig, but have you advanced the injection timing at all? That helps with throttle response and EGT a bit.
