How do I find freight?
How do I find freight?
I am going to indy next Friday to pick up a car trailer and bring it back to New Hampshire. Does anyone know how I can find something to put on it to help pay for fuel?
Interesting reading here . http://forums.uship.com/Topic32857-1...llegal+haulers
Running "commercially" without really being commercial and having regular "Allstate" insurance for example, if they find out they'll drop you like a bad habit. I run a welding rig, commercial insurance on truck. To play the game(legally) you have to pay. Not to mention your liability if in an accident. The $300,000 coverage you likely have from your insurance carrier won't mean squat when the victim gets to sueing you. I have $2mil policy and roughly $2900/year, in your case not worth the fuel money.
"glad to see the DOT working on getting the illegal haulers legal"
To bad we can't get that going with illegal(uninsured/uncertified) welders

didnt think most companies that needed welding would hire anyone that is not certified. i weld but what i weld is not required to be certified when i have any welding jobs. any commercial welding i hire a cert welder. insurance companies will drop ya like a rock if they think its commercial

Well , just for the record you don't need FMCSA authority if you are under 10,000 lbs. GVWR . If Badme uses the 2500 in his sig and gets something to haul in it on the way to pick the trailer up he wouldn't have to worry about the DOT . There is still the insurance issue though .

I don't think so.
If he hauls anything for money this makes him for hire, thus is considered commercial thus he will need the whole "package".
Even if you use a bicycle and deliver envelopes for a living, you will need it.
Don't you find it amusing that we are forcing everyone with a work truck / trailer to adhere to the ever changing regulations, Yet we allow politicians with no experience run our government that can not / will not produce documentation..

OK lets get this straight. I apparently opened a beehive here.
1. I have the Dot numbers
2. I have the MC authority
3. I have the commercial Insurance.
4. I am under 26K do not need CDL
5. I have the log book.
6. If I am hauling for split of fuel it is not for profit and exempt from all of the above.
7. All of my hauling is done in NH, VT and Me, I just want something to go from Indiana to New England.
If all the whining is done, does anyone care to answer my question??

if you get money for anything then its for hire wether its for fuel or not, if you have whats neded then you should know where to look but anyway, you can try uship they have people who like to get stuff hauled as cheap as possible
So if I car pool with you and give you half the fuel cost then you will need DOT numbers, MC Numbers, maybe a limo license. Come on get real, it is a single car trailer pulled by a 3/4 ton truck. No one in the world is going to look at it twice, or even once.
