no they wont look at at all but until you say what kind of trailer most of us will think a big trailer and as far as the carpool comment that is a different thing compared to how the dot see's things involving their rules. like i said uships would be your best bet
There is a chevelle in In. that needs to go to New Brittan Ct. I will see if it works out.
yeah, I suppose we can all bug off and you can just do what ya want. I mean it is a free country but if you tag someone and your load comes off killing joe bike rider and it's not "yours", it's gonna be your behind not mine or anyone else here. As said, we're just looking out for you and you asked the question we're just giving the honest answers.
I've thought about the same thing you are many times, just did'nt want the risk of loosing everything. Can't control when the accident will happen. Now you know the answers so you can't use the " I did'nt know" defense. I agree with the post fuel would be compensation. You and your friend driving out somewhere to pick up a car and coming back, him paying for your fuel, meals, maybe that would slide if your friend was sitting in the seat next to ya, but not sure about that.
With a simple car trailer and a car you'll likely be ok, but if it comes down to proving ownership if you are questioned or some hot shot gets a hair up his behind or like Big Ram said, one ticked of DOT guy or State boy.
Rich, you'd be surprised at the guys I run into that are "welders" that do work with no insurance/certs and being hired by "licensed" contractors to do structural work. It's all about the money, low low rate(cause they can-no ins/certs) One guy talked about doing many trailer hitches, I have been asked by several insurance carriers if I did trailer hitches, I believe there is some liability behind their questions. This is just what other welders are calling "hacks". Don't adhere to what the guys running honest rigs have to. This guy actually told me he "can't" do vertical up. I called myself a welder when I nailed my structural tests and had papers. Just my .02, sorry not hijacking thread, back to your regularly scheduled dispute................

You are exempt from FMCSA authority if your GVWR is under 10,000 lbs. GVWR unless you are hauling hazmat requiring placarding . That's why a lot of expediters run cargo vans . They don't have to have log books .
OK lets get this straight. I apparently opened a beehive here.
1. I have the Dot numbers
2. I have the MC authority
3. I have the commercial Insurance.
4. I am under 26K do not need CDL
5. I have the log book.
6. If I am hauling for split of fuel it is not for profit and exempt from all of the above.
7. All of my hauling is done in NH, VT and Me, I just want something to go from Indiana to New England.
If all the whining is done, does anyone care to answer my question??

You say you have authority and insurance . Do you have the $1 million required for auto transport ?
You say no one will pay any attention to the truck . Are your DOT numbers on it ? If not , you're illegal , if yes they will know you're commercial . There is always a risk of accident , more so pulling a trailer in the Northeast in the winter .
Just a little bad luck and we'll see who's whining .
These threads ALWAYS turn into this.
Simply put if you receive ANY compensation your getting paid. I have run 1 car on my trailer and that did not even come close to cover my fuel. And yes that was a time I got pulled into a scale and checked. I had all my docs and bill of lading and was sent on my way.

That's what could happen if he transports anything not abiding the law. The issue to get "caught" or not is not and issue.
Most important, as he requested let him know if there's a load to pickup.
To respond to his request: you will not find any legal shipper/broker/forwarder that will give you anything unless you are 100% legal, you will find a private or shady company that in the name of cheap will risk the transport.
That's not the point. The point is to give a person correct and responsible reply. Are you going to sign you will take care of all the fines, the necessary towing, and transportation that might arise IF he will get pulled over ? Are you going to take monetary and legal responsibility for any damage he will incur/cause during an accident ?

You don't need to be speeding to get pulled over, they can and will just yank you to check you out.
I'll say it again that a small amount of compensation is not worth your financial future or the cost of fines you'll get if caught.
