Which hitch would you buy?

For a 2004.5 Shortbed

Reese 16K Slider about $1300.00 Installed
Pullrite Super Glide about $2100.00 Installed

Would you let the installer weld the hitch in, or demand that they bolt it?

Goodness, is that right for a 5vr hitch??

I was going to look into upgrading to one this year but @ that $ for an installed hitch I may have to stick with the TT...

If you want to upgrade see if they will throw in a free hitch too. That is what the dealership did for me. I just installed it.

We're having the Superglide installed March 17th. Ya big dollars, but Pullrite made a point I couldn't ignore. Pulling with a short box - in the unlikely event of an accidental jack-knife while on the road, with a manual slider the trailer would collide with the upper rear cab. My kids ride back there. The Superglide would clear the cab.
For me, all the other benefits are a distant second.

Demand that they bolt it. The Superglide has a no drill bolt on. That will prevent
any issues with Dodge and ensure the structural integrity of the hydroformed
frame. I've read quite a few comments including some from welders that say
not to weld.

Yes it is true, the SuperGlide is a bolt on application. You only have 4 holes in the bed. With the SuperGlide yo can also buy the gooseneck attachment and pull them also.
Usally the dealler does include the price of a 5vr hitch with the 5vr but NOT the SuperGlide. I got mine to give me a discount on it. I paid about $1500 for it and I wouldn't give it up except to get a Dually and I would still buy the SuperGlide brand of 5VR hitch just not the slider.

Pullrite Superglide. You will not be sorry. A buddy had his installed in his new short bed yesterday. Installer told him it was the nicest hitch he has ever put in a pickup. He was referring to the no drill bracket system and the overall quality of the hitch. Sure it cost a few bucks more but so does body work to your truck and trailer.

I have the 25.5K Superfifth and the quality just cannot be beat. I have no affiliation other than really happy with the product and they are great people to deal with. Call them and they will send you a free video.

If welding is done to the DC qualifications does it matter whether it's a bolt-on or weld-on unit? I had a 1.25" thick steel plate welded crossways under the bed across the tops of the frame rails for my GN hitch per DC quals. I plan to add a 5th wheel hitch later. I plan to drill holes into the new steel plate for the 5th hitch. Since mine's a short bed, should I still consider the Superglide? Nat

If it is done at a certified welding shop per DC instructions I would not think it would matter, I prefer the bolt in and then tack the bolts lightly for saftey, Goodluck,, Rick
