My two cents on aluminum flat beds. One if you use them for heavy use they will not hold up to fuel tanks allot of on the bed weight all the time neighboring rancher has a really nice aluminum flat bed and seems like every season he is pulling it off his truck and having it re welded. If your just for show n running down the highway then by all means. Also they are a total pain in the rear too keep clean an not oxidize.

Listen to this guy, he iz smart! And right on the money. Aluminum ANYTHING is a pain in the butt once it starts to crack. You'll become quite proficient at welding aluminum tho. Maybe you could turn it into a sideline!

Thanks Chaikwa some one finally agrees with me! I have a equal hate for aluminum stock trailers as well for the same reason. Once they start to crack its a never ending head ache and once they start to oxidize they look like total crap. If your so set on the aluminum decks then go for it but what you get is twice the price of a steel deck thats worth less than the steel deck. Go with a steel deck they wil last a life time the wood decks are easly replaced when or if you break a board & if you keep them oiled up or spill allot of oil n diesel they will last a long time.

I did not like the recessed GN ball myself, did you notice how it is mounted to steel..

Aluminum oxidizes over time.. clear coating is one way to keep it looking good, most quality boxes are clear coated over the AL.

Like chaikwa says you ll be good at aluminum welding in 10 yrs or so..

Go with an all steel or steel / rumber deck. Rumber is nice as your cargo does not slide around on it like it does on steel and it does not rust.
