Flatbeds for 03 Quad Cab Who has the best looking?

Hey, I am thinking of going to a flatbed to get rid of the problems of diffferent older trailer heights. Does anyone have a picture of a Dodge with a bed that actually looks good on the 3rd gen. Many thanks Also aluminum versus steel . What is the best?

I've got a Hillsboro 8x9' bed made of aluminum. It weighs about 200# less and looks cooler! http://www.hillsboroindustries.com/P...BedsCommPG.htm

Putting a flatbed onto a 1 ton changes the class of the truck. You will need a commercial license to be legal driving it. Something I consider as I haul a tractor around for *myself*.

I know it is true in California and I beleive Nevada also. You need to check your state to see if they have a flatbed requirement.

That may be true in Kali, but not in Wyoming or Montana! The bed must only meet the DOT requirements with the proper stripeing and mud flaps. We've added flaps in front of the duals, as well as the required rear flaps. I do have a CDL, but for hauling horses and logs for a living.

You're not changing the weight classification, it's still a 3. In fact mine weighs less than the factory model, that I changed from.

HO, are there subtle differences between "flatbeds" and "towbodies" for trucks pulling large 5'ers? Reason I ask is that I've seen lots of F450's with tow bodies pulling RV's, and didn't think that a CDL was required.

F-450's are a class 4 vehicle. Unless the combined weight is more than 26,001# or they are getting paid to transport, they don't need a CDL.

Thanks induchman, but my question was concerning the difference between tow bodies and flat beds - had nothing to do with 26k or transport. Is there a difference between using a flat bed or tow body on a class 3 vehicle? Someone above said that a flat bed installation requires a CDL.
