Help Me Order New Truck

I currently own a 2002 F250 crewcab shortbed 4X4 with the 7.3powerstroke diesel. I tow a 32' Montana fifthwheel with an approx. 2,200# pin weight. Needless to say I'm over my GVW. I want to go to a Dodge because I don't believe that the 6.0PSD is reliable. My questions are as follows.
I only tow about 6 times a year and approx. 400 miles per trip. Should I go with the 6 speed or the auto? Should I go with the 3.73's or the 4.10's? And finally, should I go SRW or DRW? Other than towing, I use my truck occassionally when I need to haul stuff like wood, motorcycle, ATV. I've had my Ford for almost 2 years and the odometer just hit 14,000. I have a 50 commute daily but drive my *box Celica for commuting and errands. Any input would be appreciated

Welcome Aboard Hedgehog.

If you were going to go Ford again, would you buy an F250 again (nope) or would you go with a DRW or SRW? More capacity vs. bigger hips. Its easier to move slender hips thru tights aisles and parking lots. Your pin weight calls for a DRW. You'll find a SRW 3500 weighs around 7500'ish in "fighting trim" possibly more (without you or family in it yet), and that leaves about 1400 lbs to reach its 9900 GVWR. You're no better off with any SRW from what you currently drive.

For your weights and occasional towing, either gear would work; just keep in mind that the auto has a slightly higher OD ratio than the manual.

The manual vs auto is a personal decision much like what oil to use. Their all good reasons in my book.

Me? I'd do a DRW with a stick and 4.10. Patriot Blue.

Go auto trans.
Stick with the 3.73
SRW will work just fine,Them 4 rear tires are a pain.
I like the 4X2 set up, lower profile.
The only advantage you have with the stick shift is when you add after market power chips, but with 600# torque, WHY would you need more? Look at the Dodge bed height rails, and compare them with you ford, you might have to make changes to the pin on the fiver.

98.5 Ram QC 2500HD Cummins A/T
98 Sunnybrook 27' Single slide

Hedgehog-

It really depends on the terrian which you will be pulling. If you are going to be towing in the mountains, I would go with 4.10. If you are going to be towing flat highway, I would go 3.73. Going with automatic or 6 speed is your choice. Personally, I would go 6 speed with 3.73s.

My 98.5 auto with 3.54s has no problem keeping up with my buddies 01 auto with 4.10s in hills with the same load behind both of us.
