Hauling a Jeep *******

Hey, Guys I wanted to get a few people opinions on an offer I received to haul a Jeep *******. I am going to Crown Point, In to pick up a John Deere B and this guy has offer me $300.00 to haul his Jeep from Everett, Pa to the guys house I am buying the John Deere from. Total milage the jeep would be hauled is 550 miles, which breaks down to .54 a mile. What are your thoughts?

I'm probably in the minority, but I feel that's alright. Have him sign something that is typed up that releases you of all liability if the ******* is damaged in any way during the transport. Have they guy you deliver it to sign that he accepts delivery and the ******* is in good condition when you delivered it. (oh yeah, and just for saving youself a headache, don't mess up!!!!)

My feeling is that you were gonna have to drive there anyway, but now you can recover some of the costs. Good deal to me!

Thanks for your opinion CODOGE. I will definitely have him sign a waver relieving me of any damage that could occur during transport.

You might want to CYA if you are not "commercial" - have a dummy bill of sale for the Jeep w/you as owner, in case DOT inquires - you want to make sure it is YOUR goods on YOUR trailer and you can PROVE it...otherwise you are running commercial.

If you werent already going that way, I wuld say no way thats WAY too cheap, but since you are, its gonna halfway cover your fuel costs so go for it, but as the other two said, get a waiver signed and make up a dummy bill of sale, otherwise you can get your tit in a wringer with DOT.

good point.....I tow a jeep quite often, and I've never been stopped to be asked about my load. I'm in CO though. Just for the sake of my sanity, please don't hurt that *******, they are sooooo cool!

Once even w/ a New Jersey plate(expired) on a friend's trailer, no running lights, and 2 jeeps on a sway crazy bumper pull trailer I wasn't touched from Denver to Moab and back. Maybe I was just lucky! I did have my brother following me closely to shield me.....now I just tow his and mine on a nice lowboy gooseneck! (man I hated that trailer!!!!!

Excellent point, I will get a dummy bill of sale drafted up before I leave with the Jeep. Thanks for all of your advise guys.

Yeah, I knew that was way to cheap if I wasn't already going that way but I figured $300 was better than nothing and actually his $300 will cover all of my fuel costs. I noticed your picture looks like a 9660 STS combine. I am heading to Inman, Ks to work for Neufeld Harvesting as a combine operator for the 2007 Harvest. I can't wait....

By Golly!! That's what I like about America!! A farmer that will work all day long in the hot sun, inside an air conditioned cab of a combine

Both of my brothers work for Deere in Moline and my Mom is retired from Deere. I am not sure but I think they build combines. I have to try to remember to ask when I'm back there this weekend. 70 degrees here in SoCal today, was 70 in IL yesterday, today and the rest of the week 40s and lower. Great timing on my trip.
