Lightbulb Haulin a motorcycle with a 5er

I need to many times take a motorcycle with when traveling with my 5th wheel......and I don't trust a behind the vehicle lift when I put a $25,000 motorcycle on it

I think I found a safe and reliable way to haul a motorcycle behind a 5th wheel

http://www.cruiserlift.com/

Does any one have experience with these SWIVELWHEEL SINGLE WHEEL TRAILERS

It should track behind the 5th and since it doesn't swivel at the hitch backing should be EZ.....I'm a little worried about the small 8" wheel and the small bearings

I also understand this is a double tow....but I'm CDL licenced for doubles and triples

Seems like years since I have seen that type of rig. I don't think I'd trust it myself. Can't get the picture of a flopping shopping cart wheel out of my mind.

That beign said, it could be an interesting solution. Keep us posted if you try it.

I kind of agree about the "flopping shopping cart wheel" but the trailer weight and load weight should be on that wheel and at speed the gryo effect should keep it running straight

That is a kewl idea, but it would look strange going down the road. I always wanted some kind of way of taking the bike along. I used to just load it in the back of the truck when I had the travel trailer, but with the 5ver goes that option.....

I've seen some guys hauling ATV's with a trailer like that, but they had 2 swivel wheels on it. The wheels were on the outer edges, probably more stable.

If you only have one wheel whats your bike going to look like when that tire fails? The most junk on the road in in the center of the lane therefore that little tire has to handle lots of abuse. There must be a better way to haul 25 grand worth of bike... I would never put my zx11 on a trailer type unit like that... You would NEVER feel if that little tire blew out. I get the image of the trailer dragging on the freeway at 60 mph..

I do have a camera on the 5th for rear view so watchin the trailer is not a problem.......I'm a little shaky about the single wheel too would feel better with 2 wheels but they do use a D load rated 8 ply tire

I plan to call them Monday with some more questions

Looks like a good plan on the flat straights. But what about when you go up and over a bump/hill or up/down steep driveways?

Since the the front of that little platform is anchored to the trailer by the 2x2 receiver mount, is it possible that your 5er could lift the entire platform off the ground? Or try and lift the back of the 5er? It doesn't seem like that system can accomodate much flex.

I'd make sure that you're 5er's rear frame is braced to take those new loads.

Pull the 5ver with the bike Problem solved

You know I see lots and lots of 5vers on the road, but can't recall ever seeing a bike behind one. I have seen the 5vers with the small garage in back to drive the bike up into though.

Maybe a new 5ver is not in your plans, but something to think about in case you may go that way.

This one is more of a Gooseneck, and the sleeping quarters might be a little cramped.

while this is an interesting idea, I worry about what happens in a sharp turn? does it go wide and have potential to wack the vehicle in the lane next to you? (thinking of in town making right and left turns at a stop light)

I tow doubles with my 5th wheel. if you take the time to set up your rig (5th wheel level, good 2nd trailer, also level, etc) it really isn't hard to tow doubles.

only draw back to doubles is you can't back them up (at least I haven't figured out how) so when you pull in for fuel or other things, you have to plan your escape without backing up. also when time to park in a campground and such, unhook the 2nd trailer and then park 5th wheel then move 2nd trailer.

my rig (I am uploading pictures now of it in doubles config, so check readers rigs after approval you should see them) is really pretty easy to manage. my 2nd trailer doesn't move around or sway at all. in traffic its easy to manage, making left/right turns is also not a problem. the 2nd trailer just tracks right behind the 5th wheel.

so maybe my $0.02 is worth something, maybe not. just thought you might consider the doubles option?

PS, one more thing, make sure your 5th wheel or motorhome will allow addition of the receiver hitch. I know some void the warranty (mind did not).

I pull a 44ft and some times a 53ft around town so tail swing is something I know about.....and this trailer is 7ft wide in the front and tapers to 4ft at the rear which cuts down on some of the tail swing

I called the builders yesterday about makin one with 2 swivel wheels instead of 1.....they said no problem it would only add $220 to the cost

I think this is a cheaper option for me to have one build it's only $1275 and I'll pick it up at the factory .......then buying another trailer that would only be used when I take my 5er anyways

I already have a receiver hitch mounted to my 5er and its wired to the rear for lites because I use to haul a 12ft flatbed behind my 5er before I sold the trailer last year
