I checked them out for my Mom. I bought the Garmin after doing a lot of research. Try Amazon.com......they even sell reconditioned ones with a factory warranty,

Do you need a external antenna. Some mods you can't use one with.

I would say no. One rental van in Maui where I could not receive a signal with GPS. Not sure why not, but never any other vehicle. My Lance Cab Over Camper sometimes prevents the signal, but only for a minute or two.

I have a Garmin and love it. It is more user friendly than the Tom-Tom. Much simpler to work with, which I like.

There is a company out that makes in-dash replacements for Dodge/Chrysler. Basically takes out the factory radio and replaces it w/touch screen radio+nav. Can't remember but I found it online and was thinking of a purch for a Jeep GC.

Get yourself an iPhone and some Navigon software. It's the best nav system I've used.

If you towing a high profile vehicle, you might want to look at the 465T, which takes in all the back roads and once you set your tow height, it will
let you know if there is a low bridge or tressel on your route before you start.

I just updated by Garmin today on line, took 4hrs.
