Gps
we just got a garmin legend hcx it works very well offroad and is very user friendly. my dad just got the garmin nuvi 200, you can also get it in a widescreen model it works great in the truck, the display is easier to read for him. i don't have a problem reading the display on the legend but it is smaller. also if you r have the mapsource software you can download offroad points into them even in the "car" models like the nuvi. if you have any more ? please pm me........
I use the Garmin gps76cs. This is an amazing gps. It is a hand held that i take with me quading, on the boat, in the car, in the truck, in the rental car, on the airplane, on the back roads and in the city. it has built in maps and you can ad more mapsets. It will tell me where the motels are, the phone numbers to the motels, it will tell me where the Italian food is in texas as well as the Italian food in New york. i love this gps. It is in Color, you can get ocean mapsets that tell you how deep the water is where you are at. It tells me when the tide is out or high tide, it tells me when to wake up cause it has an alarm clock. I can plug it in to my computer when I get home and it will download the trip that I took. Or I can plug it in to my lap top and turn it on and it will put my location on the big screen.
I use a Garmin GPSmap 276c and it IMO is one of the best out there. It is a Chartplotting GPS that does Bluechart as well as Topos. Has built in Americas Autoroute with turn by turn directions. It is a true all around GPS.
EDIT: My uses are very vast and it was hard to find exactly what I wanted. My uses include.
Camping in the sticks... way in the sticks so I wanted WAAS enabled for real accuracy.
ATVing... so I need track back features and topo maps.
Fishing... I need to have depth details and lake maps.
Driving navigation... keep from missing the road we need to be on because the wife is map challenged.
The GPSmap 276c covered all my needs.

I use a PC or a Palm PDA. It gives me real time navigation, routing, distances, phone listings, GPS via Bluetooth using DeLorme BlueLogger plus topo maps when I need them. Well, and also can use word processing, spreadsheets and other applications if I need to do other things.

P.S. My next step will be GoogleEarth in real time, that will come when I get the wireless or satellite internet service. That one is nice because you can immediately get weather maps, forecasts (or just satellite clouds to make your own forecast), and of course access to this fine forum

Thanks for the response. I'm looking at Magellan Crossover. It's specifically made for both on and off road. Costco online has it for $229.00. It looks like a fairly good unit for my purpose.
Good place to read about GPS here http://www.gpsmagazine.com/reviews.php
I havent searched for multiple use GPS's before but have been looking REAL hard at the Garmin Nuvi 660 seems to get great reviews all around. And for the price and the options seems to be a good buy if you can find it on sale.

if you're looking at the magellan crossover also take a look at the garmin nuvi 200 or 250. both in the same price range you're looking at. they both will accept offroad coordinates and tracking.
I have a Nuvi 200, very happy with the way it works and its easy to use, very intuitive. HOWEVER the first one I got had to be sent back to factory for warrenty repair after having it 3 months, I was sent a "reconditioned unit" that didn't work properly when it arrieved. So I'm now out $50 in shipping/custom fees and still have a defective unit. Garmin's agreed to repair this unit as well but I still have to send it in on my $$$. Grrr. So my $350 dollar unit will now be closer to $450 by the time I get a fully functioning unit!
Ohh the NUVI line is completly useless for offroad. I use a Magellan Merdian for that. I looked at buying a Magellan Crossover but was told at the GPS store I went that they didn't reccommend it as not all of the bugs had been worked out yet and thus it was a bit cumbersome to use.
