Gooseneck Dump Trailers
Been looking for a Dump trailer because my business has expanded to include storm cleanup, of downed trees and other storm damage cleanup, I have been using a rented dump truck but its iffy whether its available so I've decided to buy a dump trailer
Looking for input about the best trailer for the money
A few musts are a gooseneck, 21000 GVW, Tandem Duals, 18 ft bed.......I'll be hauling a Skid Steer and portable generators in the dump bed so I'll need tie downs inside the bed too
I know Big Tex makes a good dump trailer but I can't justify the cost of one
The other point of confusion is the dump cylinders, single, dual, scissors type, I don't need a load hung up in the bed so a good dumping setup is important
After looking a a few dumps some options will be needed too, ramps for loading my skid steer, a 3 way dump gate and 36" side walls with stake pockets
Anyone know of a good manufacturer that reasonably priced but not cheaply built

Pappyman,
I had a 16' big tex, tamdem dexter axles and remote dump, dual jacks, it was sweet, worth the $$$$. FYI, you will need 8 ft ramps to load/unload the skidloader and its kinda scarry the first few times! I had big tex make a bracket on the frame for them to hang on.

I have been looking at the dump trailers also. What I have heared from a few long term owners is to stay away from the dual cylinder units. Over time one or the other cylinders gets weaker and they fight each other. Looking at the bigger stuff, everthing I have seen has a large single cylinder. Just my 2 cents, still researching before I spend my $$.
Back when we were doing a lot of landscaping, we bought a 14' PJ. The quality on this thing was great. However, I don't think they make heavy enough for what you're looking for. I can say that for a higher lift you want a scissor style lift. I don't know if they have any options, but make sure you get power down also. I was told that it has more lifting power, ours had a single cylinder scissor lift and it would dump 8 tons of rock without a problem, it was kinda slow, but it did it just fine. Ours was just a single wheel tandem rated for 14K with 24" sides. We had to sell it because we got out of most landscaping.
You may want to try EW trailers out of Oklahoma, they are building some very stout trailers at great prices nowadays. Phone number is 918-567-2732

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that they can build you everything from custom gates, D rings, stake pockets, as well as ramps.

I have also called the owner of Bray Trailers in Gainesville FL they have a dump with 3 axles 21000 GVWR and can build a trailer to my spec's with everything I need except not with a scissors type lift they use dual cylinders for $6000.00 less then a Big Tex
Bray also use's 1/8 steel deck and side walls which I like better then 10 Ga steel, and 7 ft ramps which give a better loading angle for my skid steer
I'm still looking because I want the best bang for my buck

I have a Stolh brand 16' 14,000lb dump gooseneck. It's a flatbed with stake pockets and a rub rail. I have to admit, the 14,000 lb rated dump has left me shovling off the front until it will lift itself. I think it's mounted too far back, because it dumps about 70 degrees.

Call my office during the week (or e mail claudia74@direcway.com) and she will give you number for the company we get our trailers from. We sell 35-50 trailers a year from these folks and they do us a good job.
When you call them ask for Judy and tell her Herb from Justin Carriage refered you.

Tag along dumptrailer
I just bought a Bri-Mar tag along low profile heavy duty dump/skidsteer trailer. A bit pricey, they say because of the price of steel going up, but borrowed the $$$. Bri-Mar makes goose necks also and many of options of other trailers come standard on theirs. Have been hauling topsoil and crusher run so far and no problems. I think the CTD likes to pull the trailer too.

Dredging up this old thread cause Im going shopping this week....Im looking for a 14 foot, 14K single cylinder scissor lift...Been lookin on the net, but none of the dealers, etc list prices...Ebay they seem to be going for around $7K...Anyone know what these things are going for at your local dealers?? This GatorMade trailer is pretty sweet, and is just what Im looking for...
We have a 24' Wil-ro trailer it has a 2 cylinder scissor hoist and we haul 12 ton of feed all the time bought new in 2001 have not had any problem at all. If I was you definitely go with vacuum over hydraulic brakes they are the best things since sliced bread. We sold all our electric brake trailers and bought vac/hyd trailers. Just my opinion though Mike
That's a bit less than what a dump is going for at our local trailer shops. That Gator looks like a very nice unit. I remember when we bought ours most wanted around 7K, but that was a couple years ago.
the only thing about the side dump trailers is i still have images of my truck and trailer laying on there side. good idea but really how practical is it? one thing i do like about the dump gooseneck trailers is when you have to chase wires sure makes it easy and less painful on your back
