Question GN Travel trailer

I do not remember where or when, but I have seen a travel trailer built on the same design as a goose neck horse trailer. Has any one seen one, or know of a manufacturer? Seems like a very safe rig to tow!!

At hotshotauling.com forums under general/life in general / new beginnings Tom Cobb posted a message saying he pulled a "horse trailer mansion on wheels " . He may be able to answer your questions .

I know they sell an adapter that enables you to pull a 5th wheel with your goosenck hitch. This is not their 5th wheel attachement that hooks to the ball, but an adapter that you hook to the trailer plate with an extension that hooks up to your ball. It's called a Fifth Wheel Trailer Adapter. I'v never sold one myself but see em in my distributer catalogs all the time.

Try a search on "gooseneck adapters" on this or any number of RV forums. They are highly not recommended as they greatly increase the moment (torque) applied to the 5th wheel pinbox, and 5th wheel frames are not designed to handle gooseneck forces. Frame damage has been reported by many users of these gooseneck adapters, and most RV manufacturers will void the structural warranty if they are used.

Caveat emptor!!

I am not looking for a goose neck adapter, but rather a travel trailer that is built on a horse trailer set up. Any one seen one?

More common than a horse trailer camper is the race car trailer with living quarters. And now that I think of it you can get living quarters in the larger horse trailers too.
Here's a place that you can see what's available for goosneck trailers with living quarters (LQ).
Racing Junk
They make better toy haulers too.

BIG MIKE- try this page;
http://www.bisontrailer.com/

they make the trailer AND Living Quarters (LQ) completely in-house.
Others make the trailer only, then ship it to a converter company to build the LQ.

Here's another good site;
http://www.horsetrailerworld.com/home/newhome.asp

You can look up different trailer Mfg's and get dealer and pricing info.
About halfway down the page, click on "latest trailer talk topics" and that gets you to a forum page.

I've been looking into these trailers as a heavy duty toy hauler, as they are much better built than the stick and staple RV toyhaulers.

A man I work with is wanting to buy a horse trailer camper, that is all camper. He likes them because they are a lower entry height and better built. I'll tell him too check out the above sites.

So are you looking for a horse trailer with living quarters or a cargo trailer with living quarters, we are planning to have a cargo trailer built with living quarters in the next year. Just missed one on ebay 2002 32' Classic and 12.5' of cargo in the back $23,500 used. Just got a quote for one here $23,400 for the trailer (Royal Cargo) 18" taller than stock and 34' long 14' living space quoted at $1400.00 per foot. Yes I agree the trailers are better built than RV's and have floors stronger so you can haul a car or SUV in the cargo area with a fold down ramp. Race car trailers are basically of this design with some extra features, most of these are Pace American, Classic and a few other trailer manufacturers. We presently have a 24' gooseneck trailer with a 10' fibreglass truck camper on top and 13.5' of cargo space on the back, just to clarify we have a 5th pin not a ball hitch and never have had a problem binding on uneven ground. Kingpin is stronger and distributes weight across 12" of hitch instead of all the weight on less than 1 square inch of a 2 5/16 ball, king pin slides out and hitch can be changed in less than 2 minutes. Custom interiors are made by several tradesman and you must check out all of them before decide who to build interior or you will be disappointed but most built with quality materials instead of RV crap. Warning these trailers are also heavier than a standard RV 5th wheel per foot. PK
