Gauges needed, min

I'm in the steep part of the diesel learning curve presently and the expertise on this forum is helping tremendously. I have read a lot of the posts in the drivetrain section and some in the rv section, but haven't been able to put it all together yet. Right now I'm trying to determine what the min gauge requirement is for hauling a 12k 5er with a 97 Dodge 3500 auto. I'm going for a mild increase of torque/hp in the long run. I'm interested in brand recomendations for use in a piller mount setup. I already learned about getting the kdp taken care of, that's first thing I plan on getting done. Transmission improvement and cam plate are in the future.

Thanks

Brand of gauges really depends on what "look" you are trying to go with. I like all of my gauges to be the same look. Personally I went with DiProcols on a triple A-pillar mount but any of the manufacturers' offerings will do the job.

I second what 01smokin said. I would also add to mount the pyro probe pre-turbo, but that is a whole 'nother debate. For the trans gauge you can do the trans line retrofit and get the port on the output or just plumb a sender into the pan. That, too, is a whole 'nother debate.

Check out the site sponsors' web pages for examples of the different gauges that can be had.

Arkansas,
What they said- those three guages cover it. I'm running isspro and am very happy with them.

I'm pulling about the same weight now so I would suggest being careful on the cam plate. I tried a 5 TST and while the power was great EGTs would climb in a hurry on grades. I have a 8 plate now which does what I want but suspect that a 6 plate would be the ideal, giving good power but keeping temps reasonable.

Bill

Jim and I are putting in Autometer gauges and pillar mounts this weekend or next.

We just finished putting in a TST plate to increase the torque and horse power of the engine. Are we going to see that the tranny is running warm due to the TST plate? Jim informed me that the tranny is in for danger if the transmission gets close to 200 degrees. He said that the tranny fluid starts breaking down at that temp.

Our driver's post gages are Banks and I like them. We have EGT, Boost, and tranny outlet temp.

No one knows how long they will go, some have gone out within weeks and others are still going after 100k miles. But I can tell you the 01 model has had more failures than all the rest.
