Fifth Wheel Hitch
Fifth Wheel Hitch
Instead of buying a new hitch, Can i use the one off of my 83 Chevy that is only a year old and fit it on my 96 Dodge CTD. Or do they make a kit to buy or what to do? I just dont want to buy another if i dont have to!
I don't know what type you have, so I may not be giving you much useful information. That said, I had 2002 Chevy Z-71 short bed pu that I had a new 16k Drawtite 4 way swivel, slider hitch installed. It had 2 rails mounted on top of the bed, and through the bed to the frame. The entire hitch could be removed, but the rails would remain.
When I got my Dodge Cummins, I took it back to the Hitch Install place and they just put in "NEW RAILS" only on the new truck. The same hitch, just mounts into the new rails. I believe the hitches are a standard size for mounting purposes. The rails and mounting hardware (under the truck bed) may vary a little bit from truck to truck though.
Now I have a Slider Hitch in my LONG WHEEL base Dodge 3500 SRW. Don't need the slider part anymore....but I already had it and didn't have to buy a new hitch.

Most will go in any truck, just be sure on the short beds for turning radius. You can either as Tex stated above to get new rails or take the ones off your chevy, My Reese has seen different trucks in its life. Go to some Rv,hitch sites and if any of the mounts on the frame has been welded you can pick up a new install kit. Goodluck,,Rick
10-4, Thanks, A buddy and i installed the one on the Chevy, But i ordered for the Chevy and it fit. We didnt weld it. So Looking at it , It looks to me all i need to do is make new holes in the brackets according to the holes in the frame so i wont drill any in the frame. Ok, I guess it should work. That will save me about 800 California pesos plus 225 pesos for install.
