Bent my Fifth Wheel Hitch!!!!!!

Got a Draw-Tite Slider unite rated at 15K. My f`er weighs 10.5K empty.

On my first pull with the new hitch, I pulled it to my destination, 280 miles, and while manuvaring it in the campground. I decided to slide it back. I put the slider in nuteral and lock the trailer brakes and put the truck into gear. It wasn't moving so a gave it a LITTLE gas. BAM!!! Bent the main cross bar up. :'( :'( :'(

Luckly it didn't bend the frame or fall off the hitch. The only thing broke was the hitch.

Draw-Tite was cheap with me and only replaced the bent cross bar. Didn't give me any labor money. So cuz there hitch was defective I got to pay somebody to put it on twice!!! That SUXS >

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, that does not sound right, if it was a defective hitch, they should pay for everything. I'd look into it further.
Big dawg

These CTD have so much torque they can pull tree stumps. Too bad about the hitch, better the hitch though than rippin the bed off your truck. :'(

Re:Bent my Fifth Wheel Hitch!!!!!!

I have a Reese 16K Slider and have noticed that sometimes it takes quite a jerk to get it to slide. You really have to be careful not to gas it too hard. I did a couple times and thought I'd yank the bed off!
I did have a hard time getting the handle to rotate in order to shift it from tow to manuever though. I coudn't get it to budge even after rocking the truck back and forth. I actually bent the square tube handle. I finally had to put an openend wrench near the bottom of the handle to shift it!

I found a sequence that mad the operation easier.

To move slider back to manuever position:
1) Put chocks on one trailer wheel.
2) Applied trailer brakes manually. Put truck in reverse and backed tight against Chock. Set parking brake on truck.
3) Moved slider release lever to the full rear position, then forward about 1/3 of the way from the rear position.
4) Applied trailer brake manually. Released parking brake. placed in forward gear with foot on brake. Applied slight throttle, to about 900 rpm and hitch slid backward.
5) Moved lever back into the full rear position to lock in Manuvering Position.

For moving slider forward reverse the procedure.

The first time I tried to use the slider, I applied too much throttle and wasn,t ready to apply truck brakes. There was a jolt. The steel on those hitches is mighty heavy. Wonder how many RPMs it would take to bend anything.
