Opinions on cab spoilers?
From reading everyone's reply to my little fuel mileage while towing post, it seems no one mentioned using one of those cab spoilers? Has anyone got experience with one? Where did you get it, how much was it, before and after MPG comparisons, etc?

Don't like 'em...

Never used one...don't know anything about them...never heard anything about them...just don't like 'em. But hey...that's just me.
Re:Opinions on cab spoilers?
From what I have read on the RV forums and here also,,,, it seems that most folks say they notice very little difference in mpg. They do say it keeps most of the bugs off the front of the 5er. :

Re:Opinions on cab spoilers?
We have them on both of our Peterbilts, mileage increased but very little. My boss' son put one on his crew cab (the smaller ones that go on the hood of a semi) and he didn't see any change either, I think they are to far away from the front of the trailer to do any good. I'm with Hoss on this one, I don't think they look good on a pick-up but look nice on a big rig 8) I think the brand is Gullwing, but I'm not sure.
Re:Opinions on cab spoilers?
oh yeah, those wings. I've heard the same thing - keeps most of the bugs and dirt off the trailer, but not much in the way of fuel savings.

I do like the look of those big fancy aluminum wings though. Around here, it seems like I see most of those on old lowered GMC or Chevy crew cab one ton dooleys. "All dooded up, and no-where to go".

Re:Opinions on cab spoilers?
I've used a wind deflector, not the nice wing. Mine is a flat fiberglass panel. I had it mounted on the roof of my Ferd crewcab. I gained about .5 miles per gallon, but it really helped keep the bugs off the front of the fiver. I haven't used it on my Dodge because the frame attaches to the raingutters and my Dodge doesn't have any. My w/d cost about $150.00 from J.C. Whitney. I'm sure that the wings are quite a bit more expensive. Hope that this helps.

DeWain
Re:Opinions on cab spoilers?
TWZMYJP,

From what I've read the max increased mileage increase in tests was about 10%. This depended on exactly correct placement in front of the 5er, the correct angle of wing, etc. Since they fiirst were introduced in the 60s, the fiberglass endcap has been introduced. Some of these have been designed aerodynamically to reduce wind drag. If you have a flat front with 90 degree corners you might save 10% on fuel. Otherwise the money is better spent on fuel as better mileage will probably evade you.
Re:Opinions on cab spoilers?
Seems to be true. Probably better off buying the fuel, as I would just get frustrated trying to adjust it a bit different every trip in an effort in increase MPG... Thanks for everyone's input!

Re:Opinions on cab spoilers?
My opinion after having Wind Deflectors on 2 different trucks and with 2 different fivers. They help to keep the bugs off the front, at least the bottom 2/3rds, but not much help keeping bugs off of very top on either of last 2 fivers. Couldn't see much increase in MPG either.
For me keeping the bugs, especially LOVE BUGS, off most of front cap, is worth it.
