Question Fiberglass topper mounted spoilers.

Are there any aftermarket spoilers or has anyone fabricated one to mount at the rear of a fiberglass topper to help direct air over/around an enclosed trailer? Strength issues? I have seen a few versions that are cab mounted. But those seem to be more effective with goose/5th wheel trailers. Expensive too!

I have a topper that angles up towards the rear. But the enclosed trailer is at least a foot higher than that. I'm expecting to loose at least 1-2 mpg going from an open car trailer to a 26" enclosed Pace and would like to minimize the loss.

Most folks seem to agree that the wind deflectors are better at keeping the bugs off the front of the trailer than they are at reducing drag.

Any little bit would help, especially if you drive 20k a year.
Considering we have love bugs up to twice per year, that would be an added benefit!

Myron, unless an air deflector can be mounted within 2-3 feet of the trailer - it'll make a much better bug shield.

Thanks. I guess I'll concentrate on other forms of mileage improvements.

Best way to do it is to slow down but I've not perfected the art yet.

lol
I'm pretty good at staying at 70-72 mph even when I'm in a hurry. But I did find that I get the best mileage at 60-65.

I know what you mean! I don't know how much aerodynamics, engine efficiency, gearing, etc. affected it, but my previous truck was a '92 D-350 diesel ext. cab. and I picked up 1.5 - 2 mpg towing with the newer truck.

Both had similar toppers, same cargo and auto trans. '92 had a 3.54 rear and the '04.5 has a 3.73.
