That's why we check our smoke alarm on a regular basis. We also have escape windows in every room. That alarm goes off I’m out the window, will look at what’s happening when I get outside.

When the kids were small we used to have trailer fire drills. I used to ask them if they thought they could find their way to the door or escape window in the dark.....they always thought they could. (under fire conditions visibility is usually zero)

At night I would close all the blinds in the trailer, make sure it was pitch black and have them crawl on their hands and knees to find their way out from their bunks. They were amazed at how hard it was to find the door and open it. Sometimes I would put a cooler or something in their way to really make them think.

Trailer fires burn hot and fast.

In my 30yrs of driving truck I have seen too many too count rv's on fire. From motor homes to pull trailers & fivers. That is why I will never leave my gas turned on to the frige while going down the road. I know alot of people do & haven't had a problem. It only takes once. I would rather error on the side of caution & put my perishables on ice.

You really don't need to do that in todays boxes. I had a freezer full of halibut and salmon coming home from Alaska on the ferry. All gas had to be turned off. On one leg, the box was off for 13 hours - - not the first bit of problem and the freezer was still 28 degrees when I restarted it. A days run can easily be done without the gas on.

I put things on ice until we get over to the coast, 2 hr drive before we hook to power & run the frig on electric. Stuff does remain frozen on the way home.

Looking at that first photo, I'd have to guess that the caption is correct, and this one appears to have started in the furnace...
