I forget what brand it is that makes the version of the brake controller he has, but your a whole lot better off with a Prodigy brand. The cord on his is so you can apply the trailer brakes manually, in case your trailer sways. However, with a properly equiped and loaded trailer, you don't need that option. besides. Who would want to drive all weekend having to hold something in thier hand constantly?

My Prodigy has a lever on it for manually applying the brakes, if it should be necessary.

There are other reasons besides trailer sway that someone might want to apply the trailer brakes independantly.

They sure are nice to have when you're by yourself, loading equipment on your trailer.
