Dr. Performance Modules???

Hello everyone!

My name is John Good. I'm a new member from London, ON Canada & I just bought a 03' Dodge 3500 Dually 2WD Cummins/Auto pickup to haul RV's for a Commercial Carrier here locally. I still have to pickup the truck in Ottawa, when it's ready, so I don't have it here yet.

One of the things I am considering to improve the towing mileage is to install one of these Dr. Performance Modules. The reason I like them, is that they control Fuel Pressure, not the Injector Timing, as per their website. This, according to them, is the only mod you need... no performance intakes or exhaust systems needed!

Here is the link:

http://www.usdieselchips.com/site/1622112/page/45029

Has anyone here installed one of these & has experience as to how well they perform?

I'm not trying to start a discussion here on the different modules/chips on the market & their pros & cons... just experienced opinions on how well these Dr. Performance modules work in the real world.

From what I have been reading here over the past couple wks., this is a great board! I'll try to be a good member, whose opinion can be trusted.

Thanx;

John Good

I wasn't impressed with it, I'd go with the Smarty jr. If you aren't planning on any upgrades, this programmer will work well on stock truck. My wee lil brother out in Kelowna, BC is running an 05 2wd QC dwr hualing rvs as well, his truck is stock, no programmers/chips and is reporting 20-25mpg empty! He hasn't reported what hes getting loaded as his loads vary.

Oh... and welcome to DTR... great forum, great people here!

If you're just looking for a little extra power and fuel economy, I'd look at Quadzilla's Max Mileage Module. His products and customer care are first class. http://www.quadzillapower.com/produc...ge_Module.html

Didn't the OP asked about Dr. performance ONLY, not a debate to other boxes ?
Let's stick it to the question please.

The owner of the cartage company told me not to bother with any performance upgrades... just keep it stock, & he owns 40 trucks. I thought that if the Dr. Performance module could increase towing mileage 10 to 15%, that adds up nowadays. But if it doesn't make much of a difference, then it's a waste of money.

How long has your brother been hauling rv's? I did a Business Plan for the bank with diesel figured at $4/us gal. & 13 mpg while towing, & I figure I still can clear about $30,000/yr., even at these ridiculous fuel prices. I guess I'll have to wait a yr. to see how accurate my plan was.

i have used several products from dr performance with good results he just sold out and the new owners now only have the Texas location i talked to a teck for about 20 minutes to see if i could add his module to increase rail pressure a little and see if it would eliminate third injection pulse i am interested in fuel mileage only And i wanted the module to work with the smarty jr the teck was not as knowledgeable as he should have been but one thing he insisted on is that it does have timing advance

Ive had no probs with mine. Been running it for just shy of 35,000k. 50% of that was towing 8-10,000lbs.

That's probably a good sign then! In this day & age of instant communication, if a lot of people weren't happy with them, then I'm sure that there would be a lot of complaints about the product on the Internet!

Just reading their website, one gets the impression that they don't need to use "in your face" marketing to sell their product.

There are other things, like an adjustable airfoil on the roof, that I need to purchase first, but I might try a Dr. Performance module later on this yr.

I had a predator stage III chip....from Dr. Performance.

It really added power, but I have no idea about the milage increase as back then the parents were still paying for fuel! Man I miss those days.

If you're going to be hauling, a chip may be good, but be careful with an auto and adding hp/tq w/o any gauges.

Personally, I'd save the money on the chip, buy a set of gauges and then start building power...

I ran a borrowed predator on my 03 for about a week or two. Decent low end, great on the top I thought. It also didn't smoke, at all from what I saw, and I tried.

Yeah I wonder how it would stack up to something like a 6 gun on the same year and everything....seeing how Banks likes to promote no smoke stuff, but I've seen 6 gun equipped trucks smoke and were still relatively slow.

Anywho, I think it's a good little box but my goals required products that are capable of fueling far beyond that.
