Controller Install/ OD question

All,

Sorry if this is redundant, but I have done a search and haven't seen a thread, so I am going to ask away...

I was wondering about installing a Jordan 2020. I am pretty set on buying this from other posts, but I was wondering what all is entailed with the install. Is there other wires that are required to the trailer or is the pigtail Dodge gave me with my truck all I am going to need? Basically am I going to have to run wires from the front to the back of my truck? Also, the controller says to remove the unit when not in use. Does this have a pod or port that the unit sits in when it is in use (much like how a cordless drill's battery sits in it's spot), or am I going to have to unplug it every time I am not using it? Is the install pretty easy, or should I take 'er in to the trailer shop? Directions look pretty easy, but I have never done this.

Now onto OD... Should I be using OD while towing? My load is going to be about 6k. Straight aways ok and hills bad? Thanks in advance for your help....

Jake

The pigtail is all you'll need. You'll use 3 wires of the 4 on the pigtail - you don't need the brake light wire with the Jordan. Be sure to match the controller wiring to the pigtail by FUNCTION, NOT BY COLOR.

All they're really saying is to pop the cable out of the brake pedal arm bracket to save wear and tear on the cable and potentiometer. Don't worry about it - I haven't unhooked mine since installation in late 2001 and have had no problems whatsoever.

Check out bestbrakecontroller.com and they will have the instructions for download there. It took me about 3 beers to hook it up and adjust it. I pull in OD as long as my tranny is not searching and have not had any problems. You will LOVE the Jordan!

When and if I remove the module from the "in use" position, I put it back into the hole backwards and it stays. I have my holder mounted a little downward so it will sit in it.

Play a little with the position of the module on the wire and the position of the sheath. You will be able to have your trailer brakes come on exactly when you want them to rather than get hit with a surge the minute your brake lights come on. I have my trailer brakes starting to engage just a tad before my truck.
