Car hauling...lucrative?

I just ran into a guy that hauls cars PT with his gas 2500 on a 2 car gooseneck trailer.
He stated that if he did this FT he could make a nice living. So then I asked..."what kind of figures can you or have you done?"
~$300 a car all day long. Local tows and he has contracts with local smaller dealers and like.

This was in Mass at the time.

Is this what you guys are netting? (I totally understand the overhead with truck and trailer maintenance and all that it entails) So you really should be throwing that money back into your equipment.

Feedback pls

I've not met many where "hotshot" and "lucrative" were in the same sentence.

See, that's the rub, if you haul one ever so often, you might make some money IF you didn't wreck, break, get pulled over by DOT, etc. I would bet the guy saying he is making money is pulling with nothing other than his regular Insurance.

If you want to do it legally, that's when the real expenses mount up fast.

Hmm?

That discussion seemed too good to be true.
He mentioned proper insurance was $5k.

I have the proper trucks (2) and regular blocks of free time. I was just exploring the reality of this.

Thanks all for the responses.

ive thought of this oppurtunity also.. i think the 3 car trailer and proper coordination of the deliveries (full both ways) would be the only way to go.

I did it for 6 months about 4 years ago. Had 2 buddies that had been in the business for a while prior to my start that helped me get going. Which made it a lot easier to get started. One told me not to do it, that I wouldn't make much money. The other said I could make money if I did it right. I had decided before I started that I would take a hard look at how I was doing after 6 months and evaluate weather it was lucrative or not. At that point after my costs, not including the purchase of my truck and trailer, just my operating costs. I had only made 12 grand. I was wearing out both my truck and trailer and couldn't see how I would ever be able to replace them. That was doing it full time, running multiple log books and working real hard to make it work.
