I'm seriously considering buying an RV from a Texas dealer. They seem to have what I want for a much better price than I'm getting here, if I can get that model here at all. So my question to you guys is can I leave SoCal (from I-10 and I-15 intersection) on a Friday evening and make it to Texas, buy an RV, then drag it back home by Sunday night? I know its a long way and I should probably have a co-pilot, but is this feasible at all?

 

I don't think it is possible, not only is it a ways ,but unless you have talked to a dealer or the dealer you are buying from before hand on the trailer you want more than likely they have not serviced, this is normly done after the sale (this was the way the trailer was done that I bought in Tx took them three days to get it ready).

 

I don't know about the whole rv thing, but my dad and uncle left early on a friday morn and drove 700~miles to Texas and bought my truck. Then they drove about 2hours back , slept and was back by 5 on sat.

About the only thing that will make this an economic success is a fast turnaround. If I have to take time off from work it pretty much becomes a wash, and it also makes it more difficult to find a suitable co-pilot.

 

i imagine it is possible....but once you get here...you won't want to leave!

 

How many total miles? Texas is a big state so it depends where you are going once you get into Texas.

I've driven one way from Santa Rosa, New Mexico to Cleveland, Ohio nonstop. I was trying to beat a snow storm that was moving across the midwest and I did, just barely. It was 1475.6 miles and it took me 30 hours with food and fuel stops. I slept for about 14 hours after that.

I just ran Riverside, California to Dallas, Texas and it is 1400 miles. No way you can make it there and back in 48 hours and be functional the very next day.

 

Well, Riverside is only about 20 miles closer to Dallas than I am, so I'm looking at a 1400 mile drive. That's 30 hrs of actual drive time one way, so a weekend turnaround is pretty much out of the question.

Pauly, What are you buying and from which dealer and location?

 

I haven't decided yet, but I really like the Jayco Recon and the Crossroads Cross Terrain.

The Crossroads dealer is Ballard's Freedom RV in Selma and the Jayco dealer is American RV in Anthony (north of Juarez).

I was looking at K-Zs also, and they are at Terry Vaughn RV in Houston.

"Ballard's Freedom RV in Selma"

They are about 60 miles South of us. We bought our Cruiser in Katy just West of Houston. There are several Crossroads dealers within 150 miles of us. All three of those brands are good trailers. If you decide on a Cross Terrain let me know what model you are looking for and what options you want and I can search some of these local Crossroads dealers.

 

That would be real cool. We like the Cross Terrain 36DS with just about all the bells and whistles.

Oh, oh, the other unit I really like is the Heartland Cyclone 3795. Again, I want all the bells and whistles. They sell Cyclone at Southwest RV in Katy.

 

I know this is a different model but this place is just South of Austin.
