Broken wheel on trailer

I have a 200 Tahoe 33ft 5th wheel toy hauler . To get it turned around at my house I have to jack knife it and when pulling it forward the front tire digs into the gravel a bit as it is sliding sideways until it starts to roll again .When I purchased the trailer I asked about doing this and was told it was okay. We just got back from a trip to So CA the roads down there are in very bad shape I saw 6” wide cracks were they had patched them they were not even and you would hit what felt like a 1 to 2 inch lip.
So this morning I noticed that the center is broken loose from the wheel on the pass side front axle. Has any one seen or had one of these wheels break ? This is the wheel that takes all the load when I jack knife it to turn. I am thinking I need to get some alum wheels or reweld the centers on the steel wheels.

spinning tight puts huge strain on the wheel . I try not to jack knife to much but it can't always be helped . I now run forged aluminum wheels. Is your toy hauler a 2 or 3 axle ? 3 axle trailers seem to be the worst

Turning in gravel does not place high enough stress on a wheel to breaj it like that. You had a defective wheel. A normal truck woulkd not have the power to break a rim. Have you ever seen a wreak where the rim was bent and the tire knocked completely off the rim? They are usually not broken in that situation.

When I bought my toyhauler (used) I saw that a couple spokes on two of the wagon wheel type steel wheels were broken...

I learned that the modular style with round holes were rated heavier, so I replaced all 4.

Anyway, from the photo, it looks like there might have been some rust? If it were mine, I think I would replace all of the trailer wheels.

It is a two axle .I did not think it should put too much load on it sliding it thru the gravel but I thought I would ask.As for rust it is just surface rust .Trailer is stored under cover and has not seen much use in the rain.I am going to pull the wheel today and look at the welds, I think it was bad welds.

Pulled the wheel off it looks like the welds had been cracked for awhile they also appear to not have much penetration. You can see that they are not fresh breaks and there is scuff marks were the center was working back and forth on the wheel.
These are Intero brand made in the USA DOT 16x6 JJ wheels.

I wonder if it would be worthwhile to contact the company?
