BP ball mounts and hitch *****?

I jus made my first decent pull with the truck. Pretty happy about it. We got a 16' Featherlite stock trailer-about 3500lbs unloaded (I think). Anyway, the guy I bought it from threw in the ball mount and ball. The hitch reads 6000# 600 tongue weight. This seems low to me. My two little horses are going to put it up to that limit not to mention in a hard braking situation the effective load will become higher. Am I just worrying too much? Or is there another mount I should buy? Any recommendations?

As an aside, we have been using the trailed for moving and had it loaded close to the 6000# mark. Pulled like a dream-12+mpg keeping it around 70. The new Brakesmart works great at speed, but even with the gain turned way down it locks them up a little when I back up. Overall, I'm VERY happy.

I'd say that if your drawbar and ball are both rated at 6,000/600 and you're not exceeding 6,000/600 then you have nothing to worry about. Don't worry about hard stopping or anything like that. If your loaded trailer is less than 6,000 pounds and your tongue weight is 10% then you're good.

In reality, most of these things can probably handle twice what they're rated for simply because of the factor of safety they put into them. Of course, I'm not in any way suggesting that you exceed the stated ratings.
