Best Way To Upgrade OEM Receiver

5K max on my 05. To tow a bigger trailer (7-10K) what's the best way to go? A friend of mine has a 2nd hitch that fits into his OEM for the same weight. Is this the best way?

I'd rather not go with a weight distributing hitch, so is it best to replace the receiver? Thanks!

your stock hitch will handle 10K easy My friend has a 03 and 05 and tows a 20 k trailer with a linnet eye on his stock reciever for years with zero issues.

I got the 5K from the plastic bumper cover. I'm guessing this is for a bumper mount, not the tow package receiver? I checked my manual and window sticker and they say class IV, up to 12K GTW. Thanks, pdogg!

Rebal, I googled linnet eye and only pics of little birds came up. Cute birds, but nothing tow related. Do you know if it has another name. It sounds like what my friend has, but it looks like I won't need one, just a brake controller.

Thanks for the help, guys.

yup! bumper rated at 5k, receiver much higher.

I think it's spelled lunette ring, and a pintle hitch.

What really got my goat was my bro-in-law bought a new Chevy 2500 right after I bought my CTD. His bumper cover says 7,500 and it's a gasser. I thought the Dodge bean counters were really sticking it to us.

I wonder if there's any way I can get those nasty emails I sent them back.
