Best towing transmission?

Ok, with out a doubt the 48re is the weakest link to our drive trans. I am currently looking to upgrade the trans however where do I start? I don't have alot of money but I need to do something to prolong the original trans. Should I start with a VB, or TC or input or output shafts or a simple trans pan? What brands are the best? Again, I have a little money set aside just not alot. I have some upgrades (see sig.) I just don't want to replace the whole trans because I didn't do anything about it.

Start with a VB and a TC if you can do both at once, or just the VB if you can't, it will help prolong the life of the other components.
