B&W turnover questions.

I installed one today and when I installed the 5th wheel companion it is loose on the bed of the truck, I can step on different edges of the rail and its loose enough to rock back and forth. Is this normal?

I put the hitch in the hole, tightened the one bolt to 40 lbs then tightened the ubolt clamps, is this right and do I have to loosen all of these and then re-tighten them every time I put in the hitch?

My pkg did not contain the 5th wheel plate part, anyone else have this problem? I got it from my Dodge dealer that is 60 miles away but they will be getting a nasty phone call tomorrow. Thanks.

Which hole in the adapter post did you use for the gooseneck retainer pin? It should be in the top hole, and you should have a gap between the 5th wheel hitch frame and the top of the adapter post when the pull-down bolt is torqued. The bottom hole is there for use when there's a bed mat on the floor of the truck.

Don't know which hole, can I tell by looking? A gap where?

Did I put it in correct? Do I have to do all the nuts/bolt everytime I put it in?

You can tell if it's in the right hole if you have a gap between the 5th wheel hitch frame (the section the pull-down bolt goes through) and the top of the adapter post that the bolt threads into. If the frame is solid against the adapter post, the frame can't pull down onto the bed floor. This can happen if the retainer pin is in the bottom hole of the adapter post.

Yes, I remove the pull-down bolt, loosen the u-bolts and slip the frame up over the adapter post when I remove the hitch.

When you torque down the top bolt, it should really suck the hitch to the floor of the truck...

You should not be able to pull the release handle under the wheel well without first loosening the U bolts and the top bolt.

When you install it do you torque the one bolt first then tighten the u bolts?

Yes, tighten the top pull-down bolt first, then the u-bolts.

Got it done right this time thanks to you guys!

While hooked up on fairely flat ground one side had 4" between the camper and top of my bed rail and the other is 6", is that ok or do I need to raise the hitch? It is in the middle position and the axles on the 5er are flipped so it is very level now.

If you want to save your bed rails, 6" is about the minimum clearance you want to see. 8" to 9" is preferred, but hard to get with a 4x4.
