Axle weight rating on trailer
Axle weight rating on trailer
I have a 16' flat bed trailer. Where is the weight rating on the axle?
I somehow bent the axle up to where it touches the wood deck and so one tire is pointed out on the top and toed in on the bottom. I was wondering so I could price used vs new vs having the axle straightened. It happends to be the axle with the brakes also.

I saw a show on the Sunday morning Speed channel a few weeks ago that said you could tell by measuring the diameter of the axle tube. I dont remember the exact numbers, but Ill keep lookin.
Found a couple. I got them from another forum so I dont know the accuracy, but it might help get you in the ball park.

2 3/8" diameter = 3500 lb.
3.0" diameter = 5200 lb, sometimes called 6000 regular duty.
There is a 4400lb. 3" also, relatively new, not that many around.

If your loactaed where I think you are check with Tulsa Auto Spring for strightening the axle/stub.
Also see A&N Trailer Parts inc--- Tulsa for Dexter axles.
Another sourse for axles is Starlite Trailer north of Claremore. I buy most my trailer equipment from them as their just down the road from me.
Most axles have a metal tag around the axle tubes somewhere with the axle capacity.
